Sun, June 17 – Our Church’s summer worship series on land will begin.
Grant and Edie are gone through Monday visiting family in Pennsylvania.
Calling
photographers: June 17th
we’ll be starting a summer preaching and worship series on Land. As part of
this series, we’d love to have you bring in aerial pictures of your homes or
farms, or pictures of places that are important to you. If you choose to bring
in pictures, please do so by June 10. You may bring them to Amanda’s office.
Thanks!
The
Red Hymnal Celebration Sunday will feature songs from, and stories about, the red hymnals
as a way of saying farewell. The worship commission has decided it’s time
to take out the red hymnals to create more room in the hymnal racks. Everyone will have a chance to take home a
red hymnal by donating towards the purchase of the purple Sing the Story
songbooks.
The
Saturday Kitchen on May 21st
served 69 meals of scalloped potatoes with ham, sides, and beverages.
Iowa Mennonite School
The fundraising even to include musical enjoyment – scheduled for Sat, June 9 – has been cancelled
for a variety of reasons. There are
however, several opportunities to support IMS as the end of the fiscal year on
June 30 approaches: 1) gifts to our Annual
Fund are always welcomed, 2) the Hymn
Sing Hustle fun run/walk (June 23), 3) the Fairway Fun golf outing (also June 23), 4) the roofing project, in
which a $400 contribution will entitle you to a fresh salmon meal at IMS in
late summer or early fall! For more info
on any of these, please contact Larry Swartzendruber at the school. Thanks.
IMS sports camps will take place over the summer, including a girls’
basketball camp. Check www.iowamennonite.org
for more information.
A fund-raising support meal will be served at First Mennonite in Iowa City on
Sunday, June 24 beginning at noon for Michael Swartzendruber of Kalona who is
entering a year of service through the SALT program in Anafora, Egypt.
Crooked Creek

Mennonite Agencies
Annual Meeting of Central
Plains Mennonite Conference will be held in Henderson, NE, Thursday June 28 through Sunday
July 1, 2012. We are pleased to have Ervin Stutzman, MCUSA
executive director, as this year's speaker who will share
during worship time each morning. Delegates, as well as non-delegates who
register in a timely manner, will be seated at round tables of 7-8
people throughout the sessions, which facilitates discussion.
Following worship, there are reports and updates, conference
business, lively discussion, open microphone time for table response,
afternoon workshops, and a variety of evening presentations.
Meals will be served on site for registered attendees, and lodging is
offered in local homes, or area hotels. Registration information can
be found at www.centralplainsmc.org, or through your church secretary.
Crowded closet has openings for three part-time summer interns (non-paid). An
internship is a great way to gain skills and experience that future employers
look for. This is an opportunity to learn about the non-profit retail industry
and contribute to a good cause. Applicants should be high school graduates,
mature and have good oral and written communication skills. Applications are
available at the store or email crowdedcloset.volunteer at gmail.com. Positions
will be filled as soon as possible.
Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request: Amanda and Gamaliel Falla of MMN have worked at
church planting and leadership training in Colombia’s Caribbean Coast region
for 16 years. Pray for them and the new
leaders as the Fallas prepare to hand over responsibility for this ministry and
move to another area to better support pastors in other parts of the country.
The Sower Prayer Request: Pray for Youth Escape 2012, the biennial
weekend retreat for Central Plains youth taking place August 3-5 in Central
Iowa. Pray for the planning committee,
speakers Merv Stoltzfus and Marlene Frankenfield, music leader Jeremy Kempf and
the youth and sponsors of our conference.
