O, the mystery of God’s dwelling!
First Sunday after Christmas…in our distress!

In God’s mysterious ways, the assurance of salvation made perfect through the suffering of God’s servant, the experience of evil does not undermine faith, and the violence we have known and perpetuated is overcome by God’s emerging kingdom.  So let us proclaim the mystery that fills the house of the Lord – Christ is born!

Snow Day!

Washington Mennonite Church's Sunday morning services have been canceled today. We're still planning on caroling in the evening at 5:30.

As a reminder, those who are involved in the Christmas Eve drama are asked to be at church at 4:45 for a practice.

Our message today was going to be about God's surprising sign of a child, Immanuel (God-with-us), in Isaiah 7:10-16 and Matthew 1:18-25. May you be blessed this "snow day" with surprising signs that God-is-with-us even now.

O, the mystery of God’s dwelling!
Advent four…in the child that is born!

In God’s mysterious ways, skepticism and doubt are overcome by confident expectation and obedience, the joy of incarnation is accompanied by pain, and the power of God is held in the weakness of human flesh.  So, let us receive the child who came to establish the house of the Lord - there is joy!

O, the mystery of God’s dwelling!
Advent three…in transformation!

In God’s mysterious ways, the desert springs with life, desperation yields to hope, and all that is broken is transformed by the redemptive power of God.  So let us seek the restoration of the house of the Lord - there is love!

O, the mystery of God’s dwelling!
Advent two…in our relationships!

In God’s mysterious ways, death blossoms into new and abundant life, the dissonance of violence resolves into the harmony of God’s created order, and the presence of enemies becomes an opportunity to restore relationship rather than take up arms.  So let us seek harmony that we may abide in the house of the Lord - there is peace!
