Elder’s
meeting Tuesday, June 19th
at 7pm
The
elder selection process will begin next
week (June 24). Frances Litwiller, Myron
Graber, and Becky Widmer are not eligible for selection.
Amanda is preaching at Zion Mennonite in Donnellson today. Next Wednesday she will leave for a family vacation in Michigan followed by conference in Nebraska. She will return to the office on Tuesday, July 3.
Thanks
to everyone who donated towards the
new Sing the Story songbooks! We now have enough to cover the cost.
This
summer we’ll be hearing from various members of our church community and the
larger community on a variety of
topics during the adult Sunday School hour.
On the schedule so far are: June 24, Gay Widmer and Mike Bates talking
about their trip to Haiti, July 15, Roger Farmer talking about his trip to
Ecuador, August 19, Martha Yoder talking about beauty all around us, Trent
Yoder, talking about how to approach those who are grieving, and information on
Parents as Teachers. We look forward to
adding more speakers and topics to the list as the summer series approaches.
Iowa Mennonite School
IMS’s
fiscal year ends June 30th,
and the goal is to balance the budget.
As a community, financial support has been outstanding, and it is much
appreciated! An additional $50,000 is
needed to reach the 2011-12 goal of $210,000.
Please consider a gift if you haven’t
– or if you already have! – yet done so.
Thank you very much!
If you’re looking for a morning of golf and fellowship, and would like to support IMS’ Student Aid Fund at the same time, sign
up for the 3rd annual Golf Outing on Saturday, June 23! The event will be at the Kalona Golf Course…a
four-person best-ball, shotgun start at 8 am (registration at 7:15). Lunch and prizes will follow the 18-hole
tourney, and fun contests throughout play will add to the enjoyment! Go to IMS’ Web site or contact Larry
Swartzendruber at larswar at yahoo.com to register or find more info. Cost is $75 per person.
Mennonite Agencies
As the annual meeting of Central Plains Mennonite Conference
approaches, the worship
planning committee is seeking involvement from you. As delegates meet this
summer in Henderson, June 28-July 1, we invite you to uphold the gathering in
prayer. It is our hope that you would commit to praying each day for movement
of the Holy Spirit during the weekend's events. It is comforting for those
taking part in the annual meeting to know they are being prayed for.
Are you a young
adult who feels called to serve? Service
Adventure, Mennonite Voluntary
Service and DOOR:
Dwell are still accepting
applications! MVS (ages 20+) and Dwell (ages 18-30) are year-long programs in
which you serve alongside a community and congregation. Service Adventure is a
similar 10-month program for young adults ages 17-20. Get involved and serve
next year! Visit MennoniteMission.net/Serve for details.
Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request: Members of
MMN Youth Venture teams, with participants aged 14-22 and their leaders, are
partnering with communities in Bolivia, Paraguay, South Africa, and
Brownsville, Texas, this summer. Pray
that participants and their host communities would grow in love and
understanding through this experience.
The Sower Prayer Request: Pray for
Mennonite Church USA Executive Director Ervin Stutzman as he prepares to speak
on the theme Guided by the Spirit: To Let
the World Know at Central Plains Annual Meeting in two weeks.
Washington Area
An Everence representative will be at Wayland Mennonite Church from 10 am to 2 pm on June 19th. He will also be available by appointment the rest of the day, 877.656.4242.
Sean and Lori Bontrager
and their seven children from Sarasota, FL will be
blessing us with a program on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 6:30
p.m. at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. They have just completed
recording their first CD. Their desire is to bring honor and glory to God
and encouragement to others through singing. All invited to this event!
A family from Centro
Cristiano is in need of a new roof for their house. Jason Boller has agreed to oversee the
project. When a date is set the SE Iowa
Mennonite churches will be asked to help replace the roof. There is also need for some financial
assistance. With voluntary help it is
expected to cost $4300. The family will
contribute what they are able. If anyone
wants to help in addition please designate on your check an amount for the
treasurer to apply to the “roofing project.”
Crowded Closet has an urgent need for volunteers. Opportunities are available in many areas with
various schedules. We are especially in need of cashiers and
pre-sorters. If you would consider donating four hours of your time once
or twice a month it would be very helpful in allowing Crowded Closet to
continue its mission.
