Offering for 6/3/12: $2060.00

Calling photographers: June 17th we’ll be starting a summer preaching and worship series on Land. As part of this series, we’d love to have you bring in aerial pictures of your homes or farms, or pictures of places that are important to you. If you choose to bring in pictures, please do so BEFORE NEXT SUNDAY. You may bring them to Amanda’s office. Thanks!

The elder selection process will begin in two weeks (June 24).  Frances Litwiller, Myron Graber, and Becky Widmer are not eligible for selection.

This summer we’ll be hearing from various members of our church community and the larger community on a variety of topics during the adult Sunday School hour.  On the schedule so far are: June 24, Gay Widmer and Mike Bates talking about their trip to Haiti, July 15, Roger Farmer talking about his trip to Ecuador, August 19, Martha Yoder talking about beauty all around us, Trent Yoder, talking about how to approach those who are grieving, and information on Parents as Teachers.  We look forward to adding more speakers and topics to the list as the summer series approaches.

Iowa Mennonite School
IMS exchange student Benay Gozkaman, a student from Turkey, will present a “vocal and piano recital of farewell and gratitude” on Saturday, June 16th at 7 pm in Celebration Hall.
IMS’s fiscal year ends June 30th, and the goal is to balance the budget.  As a community, financial support has been outstanding, and it is much appreciated!  An additional $50,000 is needed to reach the 2011-12 goal of $210,000.  Please consider a gift if you haven’t – or if you already have! – yet done so.  Thank you very much!

If you’re looking for a morning of golf and fellowship, and would like to support IMS’ Student Aid Fund at the same time, sign up for the 3rd annual Golf Outing on Saturday, June 23!  The event will be at the Kalona Golf Course…a four-person best-ball, shotgun start at 8 am (registration at 7:15).  Lunch and prizes will follow the 18-hole tourney, and fun contests throughout play will add to the enjoyment!  Go to IMS’ Web site or contact Larry Swartzendruber at larswar at yahoo.com to register or find more info.  Cost is $75 per person.

Sean and Lori Bontrager and their seven children from Sarasota, FL will be blessing us with a program on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.  They have just completed recording their first CD.  Their desire is to bring honor and glory to God and encouragement to others through singing.  All invited to this event!

A family from Centro Cristiano is in need of a new roof for their house.  Jason Boller has agreed to oversee the project.  When a date is set the SE Iowa Mennonite churches will be asked to help replace the roof.  There is also need for some financial assistance.  With voluntary help it is expected to cost $4300.  The family will contribute what they are able.  If anyone wants to help in addition please designate on your check an amount for the treasurer to apply to the “roofing project.”

Crowded Closet has an urgent need for volunteers.  Opportunities are available in many areas with various schedules.  We are especially in need of cashiers and pre-sorters.  If you would consider donating four hours of your time once or twice a month it would be very helpful in allowing Crowded Closet to continue its mission.
