Offering for 7/26/2020:  Regular Offering: $1,600;  Scholarship Fund: $300;  School Kits: $75

▪ Join us for worship on Zoom at 10 a.m. (you will receive an invitation to the meeting by email, just click and join.) Any questions? Contact Roger Farmer.

Even though we are unable to meet as a congregation right now, expenses of the church continue. Please send your donations directly to Mary Lou Farmer, 1208 N 7th Ave, Washington, IA 52353. Thanks for your support.

School Kits! It’s that time again. This year we will be collecting cash instead of the kits to send to MCC. Please designate “school kits” when you give to this project. Checks should be given to the church treasurer by August 9, 2020. If you would rather make the actual kit, go to the MCC website for the contents and take your kits directly to Crowded Closet. Thank you! If you have questions, see Mary Lou Farmer.

Central Plains Conference

▪ Central Plains Prayer Request:  We pray for students, teachers and staff who are preparing to begin school in the midst of a pandemic. May God bless their learning and may they both receive and reflect the love of God in their school settings. We pray for our church-related schools, Freeman Academy and Iowa Mennonite.

Mennonite Agencies

Consider being an MVS participant for the 2020-2021 MVS year! Join a community, serve, and plug into your neighborhood and local congregation. Visit MennoniteMission.net/MVS to learn more and apply!

▪ Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request: Michael J. Sherrill begins his ministry as Mennonite Mission Network’s executive director this month. Pray for him as he relates to partners and workers, conferences, and congregations “to equip and empower the church to engage their culture and world with the whole gospel."

Area Announcements

From the Iowa Mennonite Museum - Do you wonder how Mennonite, Amish and Anabaptist ancestors responded to challenges of the Civil war?  Evie Yoder Miller a Kalona native has written a 3-part series exploring Amish, Mennonite and German Baptist experiences surrounding participation in the civil war.  Should you enlist, flee, or pay for a substitute?  “Shadows” is part one of her 3-part series, “Scruples on the Line.”  You can purchase your copy of “Shadows” from the Iowa Mennonite Museum in Kalona for $18.00.

Community Event - Kesho Scott, Professor of American Studies at Grinnell College, will address the topic "A Peace Proclamation" about the meaning of anti-racism and the Black Lives Matter movement at 1:30 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2020, in Washington, Iowa Central Park (downtown directly north of the library).  Kesho grew up in poverty in Detroit and experienced racism as an eight year old girl when white parents attacked the school bus in which she was riding.   Kesho Scott received her Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Iowa, where she was Woman of the Year in 1986.
