Central Plains Conference

Fellowship & Learning Trip to the Ecuadorian Rain Forest - March 28-April 10, 2019. Beginning with 3 days in Quito, meet members of the Quito Mennonite Church, learn about their refugee ministry, and visit with leaders of a network of indigenous Mennonite churches. Then, join Jerrell & Jane Ross Richer, who serve with Mennonite Mission Network and are connected to Central Plains Mennonite Conference through the Ecuador Partnership, for a focus on the faith, culture, and care for creation of indigenous communities in the Rain Forest. The cost of the two-week trip is $2,100 per-person, including round-trip airfare from Chicago to Quito and all meals, lodging, guides and transportation by bus and motorized canoe. A deposit is required by February 1, 2019. Find a full trip description at: http://www.central plainsmc.org/upcoming-trips.html

▪ Central Plains Mennonite Conference Prayer Request:  Pray for the Quito Mennonite Church and their refugee ministry.  Give thanks and prayer for strength for the small team of two staff and three volunteers who ministered to 7,800 refuges this year.

Mennonite Agencies

A big THANK YOU to all who helped pack the Relief Kits and donate to this year’s MCC meat canning project.  We were able to fill 801 plastic buckets with the Relief Kit supplies in just over two hours.  Amazing!  The cost of each kit was $27.27. Thanks again for supporting this year’s alternative project.   - Iowa MCC Meat Canning Committee

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  In this season of “Peace on earth, goodwill to all people,” Nancy Frey and Bruce Yoder of Mennonite Mission Network request prayer for peace in Burkina Faso, where terrorist groups have become more active. May the Mennonite Church show the way to the Prince of Peace.

▪ MC USA Prayer Request:  "When they saw the star, they were overjoyed." Matthew 2:10. This Christmas season, the staff of MC USA prays that you would seek the light of Christ and find ways to share joy with one another.

Area Announcements

Do you remember when Crowded Closet Thrift Shop moved in 1997? Your MCC Thrift Shop is on the move again in 2019, and we need you! Volunteers are needed for assembly, painting, meal preparation, hauling (trucks & trailers welcome!), and more! Email crowdedcloset.volunteer@gmail.com to join the relocation action that begins at the end of January.

Have you wondered where you fit in God's story? Or what in the world God is up to? The Perspectives of the World Christian Movement course is coming to Kalona for the first time! Beginning January 15, 2019, we will spend time with different instructors each week as we look at God's redemptive plans and purposes for all people. We will see how Scripture, history, culture, and strategy come together to reveal the whole story and our role in it.  Early registration deadline is December 16th. Family and book discounts are also available, along with credit information at perspectives.org. For questions contact Karla Neuschwander, neuschb@gmail.com or 319-328-8733.
