Mennonite
▪ Offering for 7/24/16: $2,255 (Regular Offering); $100 (Saturday Kitchen); $125 (MYF Fundraiser)
▪ The church’s fiscal year ends on August 31, which means there are only 5 more Sundays (including
today) for offerings for the Annual Blueprint. In order to meet our financial
obligations, we need $20,000 before Aug 31st! That’s an average of $4,000 per Sunday. Can you help us meet this goal? Please prayerfully consider how you can
generously support the mission of Washington Mennonite. If you have questions, see Mary Lou Farmer,
Treasurer. Thank you for your generous
gifts!
▪ Birthday Breakfast Club: If you celebrate your birthday in June, July,
or August mark your calendars and
join Amanda for breakfast and fellowship on August 20th at 9:00am.

still available spots in our summer boys’ basketball (July 25-29 for grades
5-10), youth volleyball (Aug 1-3 for grades 4-8) and drama camps (Aug 1-5 for

▪ Please come support IMS on Saturday,
August 27th. There will be several events happening throughout the
day at IMS in which you can participate.
We would love to see as many of you there as possible, and so the
congregation with the most representation will receive donuts provided by the
IMS PTO on a Sunday morning of your choice!

Everence welcomes the opportunity to partner with the IMS PTO
in sponsoring the Joetown Classic 5K Run.
In addition, Everence is hosting a complimentary
lunch between 11am-1pm. Stop by our
table, sign up for prizes, challenge someone at a corn-hole game, and
fellowship while enjoying lunch.
Be a part of an easy $6000 donation to
IMS!
All you have to do is take a short, no sales pitch, test drive
(without a sales person) from IMS to Lower Deer Creek. Really
it’s that easy, and it’s free.
Anyone 18 yrs or older with a drivers license can pick from a variety of
Ford vehicles and take this very short test drive. For each drive, IMS gets $20 from Deery Ford. Test
Drives will take place between 8am-2pm. Take
a couple minutes to join this effort and you really can make a difference for
IMS.
Central Plains
Conference
▪ Sunday School teachers, wouldn’t it be
nice to have just a little more training on how to facilitate a good Bible
study? Central Plains conference is offering three different webinars this fall on interpreting and
teaching the Bible. Plan to join us
September 12, October 24, and November 21.
Watch for more details.
▪ The Sower Prayer Request: Next
weekend Marco Guete will teach a workshop in Spanish on pastoral ethics in
Muscatine, Iowa. Pray for him as he
prepares and travels and pray for the fellowship and learning of those Central
Plains pastors who attend.
Crowded Closet
▪ The Crowded Closet Thrift Shop in Iowa City is hiring
several part time positions including Saturdays. Hours are flexible and tasks would include
greeting donors and customers, sorting donations, and working closely with
volunteers. Applicants would have the
ability to work independently, be decisive and highly organized, and demonstrate
strong interpersonal skills. Interested
persons should contact Crowded Closet at 319.337.5924 or email
crowdedcloset.gm(at)gmail.com.
Mennonite Agencies
▪ MC USA Announcement:
Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery. MC USA is contributing to the
work of the Doctrine of Discovery (DoD) Coalition, a group that is working
systematically to dismantle the DoD, a 15th-century philosophical
framework that gives “Christian governments” moral and legal authority to
dominate Indigenous peoples and to invade and take over Indigenous lands. The group brings together representatives
from MC USA, MCC, Mennonite Creation Care Network, the Watershed Discipleship
movement and members and leaders from congregations and conferences across the
denomination. Learn more:

▪ Mennonite
Mission Network Prayer Request: Robin
Gingerich is taking a leave of absence from the LCC International University
campus in Lithuania, where she has worked through MMN for 19 years. Pray for her as she begins to work with a new
LCC program in Georgia, assisting refugees toward a hopeful future.
▪ Mennonite Education Agency Prayers for Faith and
Learning: Give thanks for the many teachers, staff and
administrators who work hard to show God’s love to students and provide them
with encouraging learning environments.
Area Announcements
▪ Madeline Leichty, daughter of Deon and Jo Leichty and a 2016 IMS graduate has been accepted into the SALT program
with MCC. She will be going to Nicaragua
in August for 12 months to assist in teaching English. A
fundraising meal will be held on Sunday, July 31st at Bethel
Mennonite Church from 12pm – 2pm. The
free will donation will go toward the financial support Madeline will need for
her trip. Come and enjoy some great food
and take some time to visit with Madeline about her upcoming mission!
