Our Church
June 5, 2016
▪ Offering for 5/29/16: $1,785 (regular)

▪ Amanda is with her family this morning at a reunion.

▪ Financial information as of the end of May:  The good news is—thanks to generous giving (and five Sundays in May), the annual blueprint deficit is only $-1816.45.  Your continued generous, above-budget giving will allow us to meet our financial obligations this summer.  Thanks for your support of the church and it’s work.  If you have questions, please see Mary Lou Farmer, Treasurer.

▪ June 12 – Potluck at the Wellman Park – Join us for a picnic potluck on June 12th at the Wellman Park (so that Dickie Miller can cross the road and join us!) at noon.  (Note: this potluck has been moved from June 19 to 12).  The Baptism Class will meet at the Wellman Park following the picnic.

▪ Washington Mennonite Summer Worship Series:  Remember to sign up in the foyer to be a Children’s story
and playtime supervisor, to bring fellowship snacks, or to provide lunch for the baptism class.

Central Plains Conference

▪ The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for Monica Clem, office manager for Central Plains, as she oversees registration, prepares delegate packets, and arranges many other details in preparation for Annual Meeting 2016 in Des Moines.

Mennonite Agencies

▪ Crowded Closet Thrift Shop is having a Founder’s Tea for those staff and volunteers from 1978-1988, the first decade of Crowded Closet, on June 9th, 10am at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.  For more information see the flier on the bulletin board by the mailboxes in the foyer.

▪ Lyle Miller recently joined Everence as a Church Relations and Charitable Services Representative.  Lyle is a part of the Kalona team working with congregations and individuals in
Iowa.  A native of Kalona, Lyle formerly served on the pastoral team of Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen, Indiana.  Contact Lyle at 800.348.7468 ext. 3229 or at lyle.miller(at)everence.com.

▪ MC USA Announcement:  Reflections on church planting.  Four video profiles of church planters and a series of blogs offer glimpses into creative initiatives highlighted at Sent 2016: A gathering of Mennonites planting Jesus-centered communities, held March 31-April 2, 2016, in the New Orleans area.  More than 100 Mennonite church planters, coaches, conference leaders and others met for the national church planting summit, representing a wide range of settings and backgrounds.  Sponsors: MMN and MC USA.  See: mennoniteusa.org/sent

▪ Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Lauren Francisco of MMN works as an expressive arts counselor at Eastwood Primary School in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.  Pray for her as she listens to stories of victims of neglect and trauma, and empowers them to be creators.

 Area Events

▪ JPOG (Just Peace Outreach Group) invites you to hear Vanessa Hershberger report on her work with MCC in the Democratic Republic of Congo as the Eastern Congo Humanitarian Coordinator.  Vanessa works with local church partners to coordinate the development and relief work of MCC in the eastern two provinces of the country, where Congo borders Rwanda and Burundi.  Join us on Sunday evening, June 5, at Kalona Mennonite Church at 6pm for a finger-foods potluck (please bring your own table service) or at 7pm for Vanessa’s presentation.  For more information call Roger Farmer at 319.532.2547 or email Jane Yoder-Short at wilmajane17 (at) gmail.com.
