For Adults

“The Myth of a Christian Nation”
By Gregory Boyd

Gregory Boyd was the worship speaker at Central Plains Mennonite Conference in June. He spoke on “Joyfully Following Jesus: Communities Centered in Christ” and was an excellent resource for our time together. If you missed them, his Saturday and Sunday morning messages can be heard at the Central Plains website (centralplainsmc.org). He has written several books; “The Myth of a Christian Nation” is one that is in our church library. I just finished it and highly recommend it. The book is an excellent comparison of the kingdom of God and earthly governments/powers. It is well worth your time to read this summer! (submitted by Mary Lou Farmer, Nurture Chair)

“Jacob’s Choice”
By Ervin Stutzman

Jacob’s Choice, Return to Northkill, Book 1 written by Ervin Stutzman is the story of Jacob Hochstetler, a peace-loving Amish settler on the Pennsylvania frontier during the time of the French and Indian War. His home is attacked, he is taken captive and his beliefs about love and nonresistance are tested. Based on actual events, Jacob’s Choice describes how one man’s commitment to pacifism leads to a season of captivity, a complicated romance, an unrelenting search for missing family members, and an astounding act of forgiveness and reconciliation. Read it now as the second book in the series will be out soon!
