Preaching schedule for June

• June 5: Grant Nebel

Happy Birthday to: Gloria Widmer, Emily Miranda (6/4)

As the Easter to Pentecost season continues the visuals represent a clearer vision of Jesus calling for his disciples. The candle burns to symbolize the Holy Spirit’s presence among us. The mirror reflects a growing vision of God’s Kingdom. Jesus, as the Living Cornerstone, is the foundation upon which the church is built. As living stones we go out from the Cornerstone, witnessing to God’s everlasting presence with us.

This Friday from 3 PM until evening and Saturday 7 AM until afternoon are the days for the Mennonite Central Committee’s annual Iowa Relief Sale at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Iowa City. Washington Mennonite is scheduled to serve breakfast at 6:30 AM on Saturday. Sign up to help. There are also baked goods needed to be sold during the Relief Sale. All proceeds go to MCC’s world relief efforts.

Remember to include Parkview, a retirement home in Wayland, in your offering this morning.

Elder selection begins next Sunday. Gay Widmer, Becky Widmer and Francis Litwiller are not eligible to be nominated.

Would you like to help out with Summer Camp from the comfort of your own home? We need people to “Adopt a Counselor”. When you agree to adopt one of our summer staffers, you agree to pray for them daily and send them a card once a week. If you are interested, contact the camp (653.3611 or ccccampatiowatelecom.net) and ask for Johanna.

ADDITIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

THIS WEEK:

Fri. & Sat.: MCC Relief Sale at Johnson County Fairgrounds

Crooked Creek Christian Camp needs a female kitchen assistant for the weeks of June 5 – July 16, 2011. It involves staying at camp from Sunday to Friday. Pay is similar to what counselors receive; hours are assigned by camp’s Food Service Manager. Call Mary Lou at camp (319.653.3611) as soon as possible for more information if you are interested.

All kids age 8-12 are invited to spend the morning at Crooked Creek Christian Camp from 9-11 AM on Friday, June 10, 2011. We will spend the morning playing games, getting to know new friends and having fun. Please register in advance by contacting the camp (653.3611 or ccccampatiowatelecom.net). There is no registration fee for this program; we just want to play some games.

Iowa Mennonite School is in need of a couple of homes for the 2011-12 school year…specifically for a Chinese female at this point. From time to time additional international students express interest; if you are willing to open your home for the school year, or have questions or would like additional information, please contact Chris Nachtigall at IMS.

Several fund-raising events are being planned for Iowa Mennonite School in the coming months, including the Hymn Sing Hustle (5K or 1M fun run/walk) on June 25; the return of a community theater piece on July 1; and a golf outing at Kalona golf course on July 9. Please check the IMS Web site: www.iowamennonite.org for details. Thank you for your continued support of the many events and activities at IMS!
