As the Easter to Pentecost season continues the visuals represent a clearer vision of Jesus calling for his disciples. The candle burns to symbolize the Holy Spirit’s work among us. The mirror reflects a growing vision of God’s Kingdom. We are Jesus’ disciples commissioned to go across the street and around the world to introduce God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

We welcome Joe Telgren to our pulpit this morning. Joe is a graduate of Hesston College (2000), Goshen College (2002), and most recently, a graduate of Associated Mennonite biblical seminary (2010). Joe is currently in transition pursuing a pastoral position within Central Plains Mennonite Conference. From 2002-2005, Joe was pastor of Carlsbad Mennonite church in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Joe is a native of Mount Pleasant and is a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church.

Please remember Ha Baccam in your prayers. Ha is currently undergoing radiation treatments for liver cancer in Iowa City. The treatments started May 16 and will continue Monday through Friday for the next two weeks. Ha and La are staying at an extended stay hotel in the area and travel back and forth each day for treatments. Thank you for remembering Ha in your prayers.

Would you like to help out with Summer Camp from the comfort of your own home? We need people to “Adopt a Counselor”. When you agree to adopt one of our summer staffers, you agree to pray for them daily and send them a card once a week. If you are interested, contact the camp (653.3611 or ccccampatiowatelecom.net) and ask for Johanna.

ADDITIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

THIS WEEK:

Wed.: Council meeting, 7:00 PM at the church

UPCOMING EVENTS:

June 3 & 4: MCC Relief Sale

Iowa Mennonite School’s Commencement ceremony will be held this evening at 6:00 PM in the school gymnasium. Forty-two seniors will receive diplomas, and 1998 IMS graduate Rachel Swartzendruber Miller will deliver the keynote address. Rachel is youth convention planner for Mennonite Church USA, and will assume a position at Hesston College this summer as Vice President for Enrollment. All are welcome to attend the graduation exercises.

It is time for the MCC Relief Sale in Iowa City on June 3 and 4. There are baked good containers and offers to make meals in homes in the foyer for you to provide for the sale. Please take generously.

New this year: When donating baked items for the Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale, please provide a list of ingredients used in your baked item—amounts not necessary, JUST a list of ingredients used.

Please consider donating items to the Children’s Auction for the MCC sale. Homemade items, gift baskets or bags, gently used items, and store-bought items are appreciated. This could be a great activity for a youth group or Sunday School class. Place your items in the box labeled “Children’s Auction” that is in the church foyer.

Helpers needed at the MCC Relief Sale: A few more assistants are needed to serve at the Plant Tent. Please contact Tim Graber at 319.461.2002 or lisagraberathotmail.com if you would enjoy helping on Friday or Saturday, June 3 & 4.

Car parkers are also needed at the MCC Relief Sale. Contact Lonnie Bartel at 310.400.1363 or lonnie.bartelatgmail.com if you can help with car parking. The shifts are Friday, June 3, 3-6 PM and 5-8 PM and Saturday, June 4, 7-10 AM and 9-noon.

All kids age 8-12 are invited to spend the morning at Crooked Creek Christian Camp from 9-11 AM on Friday, June 10, 2011. We will spend the morning playing games, getting to know new friends and having fun. Please register in advance by contacting the camp (653.3611 or ccccampatiowatelecom.net). There is no registration fee for this program; we just want to play some games.

Just an update on the camp’s van windshield: Mary Lou submitted it to insurance but the camp has a $1000 deductible. The cost of replacement was $283. If anyone would like to make a donation to help cover the cost, the camp would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much. In addition, THANKS to WMC for the donation of random un-used items from the church! We appreciate it!

Iowa Mennonite School is in need of a couple of homes for the 2011-12 school year…specifically for a Chinese female at this point. From time to time additional international students express interest; if you are willing to open your home for the school year, or have questions or would like additional information, please contact Chris Nachtigall at IMS.

Several fund-raising events are being planned for Iowa Mennonite School in the coming months, including the Hymn Sing Hustle (5K or 1M fun run/walk) on June 25; the return of a community theater piece on July 1; and a golf outing at Kalona golf course on July 9. Please check the IMS Web site: www.iowamennonite.org for details. Thank you for your continued support of the many events and activities at IMS!
