July 4 – 9, 2011 is the biannual meeting of Mennonite Church USA in Pittsburgh, PA. Each congregation is entitled to one delegate per 100 members. WMC can have two delegates. Grant Nebel will be a delegate. Is there someone from out congregation who would like to be a part of Assembly in Pittsburgh? Please talk to Grant soon so we can register you as a delegate.

On the Central Plains web site, centralplainsmc.org, there is a unity paper written for discussion among the conference members. On March 12 there will be a meeting in Des Moines for congregational leaders to dialogue with one another about how we maintain unity in the church when we disagree on Biblical interpretation of various issues. What do we hold in common and where are our differences? Please be in prayer about this gathering as we discern what it means to be church in today’s fragmented world.

Meals on Wheels – Washington Mennonite Church will be doing Meals on Wheels beginning March 28 and ending April 29. Please sign up in the foyer if you can be of assistance in delivering meals in the town of Washington. Thank you.

Turning toward peace an MCC invitation to sow seeds of peace. What belongs to God? What belongs to Caesar? Each year some people of faith decide to witness for peace by redirecting their war tax dollars to efforts that nurture life, build justice and promote peace. For those who make this choice, Mennonite Central Committee U.S. offers the “Turning toward peace initiative”, an invitation to sow the seeds of peace by supporting MCC’s Global Family education sponsorship program in Afghanistan or the MCC U.S. Summer Service program’s work to nurture young community leaders.

Learn more about the initiative and the options and consequences of war tax resistance at us.mcc.org/wartaxes or contact Titus Peachey, Director of Peace Education for MCC U.S., toll free at 888.563.4676, or 717.859.1151. To support these peace initiatives send contributions payable to MCC (designate “Turning towards peace” in the memo line) to MCC Central States, P.O. Box 235, North Newton, KS 67117.
