Mission Network

Sherrill and their three children have ministered in Japan through Mennonite
Mission Network for the past decade.
Pray for them as they share Jesus’ message through teaching, music, and
daily involvement in the lives of their neighbors.
World Day of Prayer
will be held on Friday, March 4, at 1:00 PM at St. James Catholic Church in
Washington. World Day of Prayer is
celebrated in more than 170 countries and regions throughout the world. This year’s theme is “How Many Loaves Have
You” and is influenced by the music and customs of the people of Chile. This is an ecumenical service and members of
all area churches are invited to participate.
“Thank you to each of
you who supported the John Kauffman Benefit by attending, volunteering,
donating or purchasing auction items, or giving monetary donations! Because of the generous community support,
the benefit was a great success. Results
are not finalized, but are expected to net over $47,000. Thank you very much!!”
MCC international
workers evacuated from Egypt during the recent turmoil have started
returning to their work placements in Egypt.
MCC asks that you pray for the safety and well-being of all people in
Egypt and in other countries in the Middle East and North Africa where there is
civil unrest.
Mennonite Central
Committee Central States only has a few more slots available on an MCC
Learning Tour to Tanzania, April 26-May 10.
The trip is open to anyone with an interest in water projects and a
heart to share about MCC’s work upon return.

Introducing Sara Wenger Shenk, new president of Associated Mennonite Biblical
Seminary--You are invited to join with friends of AMBS for a Meet & Greet
at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Wayland, IA.
Join us on Sunday evening, February 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the
Fellowship Hall. A light supper of
finger foods will be served. Sara will
address those gathered at 6:30 followed by a time for questions and
answers. Don’t miss this opportunity to
get to know Sara as she begins her tenure at AMBS.
IMS seniors Katie Nisly and Nicole Yoder will present a joint Senior Music Recital in the school’s
Celebration Hall, today, February 27, at 6 PM.
The recital will feature the vocal talents of both students (plus
bassoon), and all are invited to attend; there is no charge for admission. Katie is the daughter of David & Jill
Nisly of rural Kalona; Nicole is the daughter of Galen & Gloria Yoder of
rural Wellman. The recital will also
feature the talents of the Chamber Singers and other students and community
members.
The IMS Music Boosters
fund-raiser at the Pizza Ranch in
Iowa City will take place on Monday, February 28, from 5-8 PM. The event was originally scheduled for
mid-January. All tips, plus 20% of the
proceeds (with a coupon) will go toward the IMS Touring Choir trip to Puerto
Rico this spring. A coupon may be
obtained by contacting the school or by going to www.iowamennonite.org and locating the coupon tab.
Iowa City-area Christians are invited to come together for a dialogue with theologian, activist,
author and speaker Brian McLaren, and one another, to consider the challenges
facing the church today. McLaren will
give a free public presentation on “Following Jesus in the 21st
Century” at 7 PM on Friday, March 4. He
will then lead a workshop for lay leaders and clergy on “Transforming Christian
Community in the 21st Century” from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday,
March 5. The workshop is $15 or whatever
is affordable. First Mennonite church in
Iowa City is a major sponsor of this event and would like to see a good size Mennonite
presence for the public lecture.

The Wellman Mennonite Mush Fry is March 6, serving from 11:45-1:00. Join us for fried mush, tomato gravy,
scrambled eggs, sausage, liverwurst and applesauce. Donations will benefit the ministries of
Wellman Mennonite.
On Saturday, March 5, 2011, everyone is invited to Crooked Creek’s first
Camporee! It will be a day of exercise,
learning, meeting new people and a whole lot of fun! Prevent ‘March madness’ and bring the whole
family to Camp to stretch the mind and legs.
We will start at 9:00 AM in the Activity Center for some gathering
activities and instructions. A variety
of hands-on and family friendly activities will be available and you can pick
and choose what you want to do! There
will be games and family competitions, crafts in the Lodge and much more! We will all stop for a lunch at noon and
hopefully pick up a new friend or two along the way. If you have questions or would like to
register, please contact the camp office (653.3611). Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for those 12
and under, family maximum of $30. Lunch
will be served to those that register by Thursday, March 3. Do your family a favor and call up some
friends and make plans to attend today!
The Chamber Singers from EMU in Harrisonburg, VA will present a concert at the Wellman Mennonite Church,
7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 8. They will
also sing in chapel at IMS on Wednesday, March 9 (9:40 AM). All are invited to come to either or both of
the concerts, which features 36 voices under the direction of Ken Nafziger.
If you’re looking for both a great meal and great
entertainment on March 12, an evening at
IMS is just the ticket! The IMS Alumni
association and Washington Township Optimists will team up to serve the annual
Turkey Steak Supper in the gym (4:30-7:00 PM), and at 7:00 pm, move into
Celebration Hall for “Homespun”…filled with laughter, singing, and Iowa
history. Paul & Julie Roberts, Joy
Ward, the Andy Wilcom Trio, Frank Yoder, Susan See, Karenza Yoder, Mary Forney,
Mike Zahs, and others will uncover the quirks of life in early Iowa through
silent movies, sing-along songs, dialogues from one-room schoolhouse days,
“news” reports, and stories of days gone by.

Washington Area
Habitat for Humanity will be holding their 17th Annual Dinner at
the United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 17, 2011. Serving of the meal prepared by Ione Burham
will be from 6:00 to 6:30 PM. An auction
of unique items will follow at 6:45 PM.
Tickets are $12 ahead of time or $15 at the door. Tickets may be purchased from Rhonda Henry at
Federation Bank, any board member, or Myron Graber (WMC representative). If anyone wishes to contribute items for the
auction, they may be brought to the United Methodist Church the day of the dinner.
First Baptist Church is sponsoring GriefShare , a special weekly seminar and support group for people
who are grieving the death of someone close to them. They will meet every Thursday for 13 weeks
starting March 3, from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.
