Mission Network prayer request: Thank God for the many lives touched through Third Way Media’s Shaping Families radio programs and the accompanying website, www.ShapingFamilies.com. Pray for sponsors and a radio station to air the program in northern Indiana.



IMS board members, faculty and staff have been meeting from 7:30 – 7:50 AM each Wednesday to pray for IMS and community concerns. We would like to expand this prayer time to include the broader community by welcoming all interested individuals to join us at IMS. You are welcome at the school each Wednesday or if you are interested in a weekly email outlining each planned prayer event, contact the school office.



Central Plains conference council and staff invite the leaders of every conference congregation to That the World May Know: A Conference on Christian Unity on Saturday, March 12, from 9 AM to 4 PM at First Christian Church, Des Moines. The purpose of this meeting is to recover a biblical view of unity, and the leaders of every Central Plains congregation are encouraged to attend this important time of Bible study and discernment. The IMS Turkey Steak Supper is March 12, serving from 4 PM to 7 PM. The IMS Alumni Association is sponsoring this event. Washington Mennonite has been asked to provide 4 servers (4 PM to 5:45 PM) and 5 pies. Please sign up on the sheet in the foyer if you can help.

All interested 8th-grade students are invited to check out IMS on Monday, February 21. Visit classes, attend chapel, enjoy lunch, and learn to know other potential (and current) students. It’s a great day to ask questions, receive information, and experience life on the IMS campus. Contact Chris Nachtigall at the school for more information.



Introducing Sara Wenger Shenk, new president of Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary--You are invited to join with friends of AMBS for a Meet & Greet at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Wayland, IA. Join us on Sunday evening, February 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. A light supper of finger foods will be served. Sara will address those gathered at 6:30 followed by a time for questions and answers. Don’t miss this opportunity to get to know Sara as she begins her tenure at AMBS.



IMS seniors Katie Nisly and Nicole Yoder will present a joint Senior Music Recital in the school’s Celebration Hall, on Sunday, February 27, at 6 PM. The recital will feature the vocal talents of both students (plus bassoon), and all are invited to attend; there is no charge for admission. Katie is the daughter of David & Jill Nisly of rural Kalona; Nicole is the daughter of Galen & Gloria Yoder of rural Wellman. The recital will also feature the talents of the Chamber Singers and other students and community members.



The IMS Music Boosters fund-raiser at the Pizza Ranch in Iowa City will take place on Monday, February 28, from 5-8 PM. The event was originally scheduled for mid-January. All tips, plus 20% of the proceeds (with a coupon) will go toward the IMS Touring Choir trip to Puerto Rico this spring. A coupon may be obtained by contacting the school or by going to www.iowamennonite.org and locating the coupon tab.



Iowa City-area Christians are invited to come together for a dialogue with theologian, activist, author and speaker Brian McLaren, and one another, to consider the challenges facing the church today. McLaren will give a free public presentation on “Following Jesus in the 21st Century” at 7 PM on Friday, March 4. He will then lead a workshop for lay leaders and clergy on “Transforming Christian Community in the 21st Century” from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 5. The workshop is $15 or whatever is affordable. First Mennonite church in Iowa City is a major sponsor of this event and would like to see a good size Mennonite presence for the public lecture. The Wellman Mennonite Mush Fry is March 6, serving from 11:45-1:00. Join us for fried mush, tomato gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, liverwurst and applesauce. Donations will benefit the ministries of Wellman Mennonite.



Crooked Creek Christian Camp invites families to cure cabin fever and join us on Saturday, March 5 for a Camporee. Starting at 9 AM we will begin our morning with a short worship time and then break into smaller groups for a morning of fun. A variety of crafts and games will be ready for you to jump in and have fun. We will conclude our time together with lunch at noon. Registration is $10 for adults age 13 and older, $5 for children aged 5-12 and free for children 4 and under. (The maximum fee for any family is $30.) Lunch will be served to those that register by Thursday, March 3, so be sure to call the Camp Office today (653.3611).



Washington Area Habitat for Humanity will be holding their 17th Annual Dinner at the United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 17, 2011. Serving of the meal prepared by Ione Burham will be from 6:00 to 6:30 PM. An auction of unique items will follow at 6:45 PM. Tickets are $12 ahead of time or $15 at the door. Tickets may be purchased from Rhonda Henry at Federation Bank, any board member, or Myron Graber (WMC representative). If anyone wishes to contribute items for the auction, they may be brought to the United Methodist Church the day of the dinner.
