Come and hear the IMS Touring Choir like you’ve never heard them before at the Benefit Concert today, at 4:00 PM…featuring students in smaller groups and in various settings, from a cappella quartets to instrumental ensembles. The concert will close with musical selections from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein. A free-will offering will be taken, and all proceeds will go to help pay for the Touring Choir trip to Puerto Rico this spring, April 7 – 12



JPOG (Just Peace Outreach Group) invites you to hear Kate Slater describe her experience teaching creative and healthy ways of dealing with people we find hard to live with. Slater will also share what inspired her to work in China. Mission Network prayer request: Mennonite Mission Network’s Radical Journey teams in Bolivia, China and England are entering the middle months of a 10-month period of cultural immersion. Pray that participants may feel God’s presence sustaining and encouraging them.

The Outreach and Service Ministry is working at the creation of a “Picture Wall” on the bulletin board containing pictures of the families and individuals who attend our congregation. If you would like to contribute a picture of your family, that would be great. Committee members will also be taking pictures over the next weeks. We don’t want to miss anybody, so be sure to let us know if your picture doesn’t get posted on the “Picture Wall”. The Kalona Mennonite Church MYF would like to invite you to a noon meal of lasagna today, January 30th.



Crooked Creek Christian Camp invites families to come and spend a day at camp. On Saturday, March 5, we are hosting a Camporee. It will be a chance to stretch your legs, mind and soul as a whole family. From activities to devotions, this day will be a refreshing change for the whole family. Climbing Club at Crooked Creek Christian Camp is just around the corner! We invite all those aged 16 and older to join us on February 13, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Activity Center for an evening of climbing, knot tying and fun! Cost is $10 per person. St. James Home and School Association is holding their annual Royal Ball on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the KC Hall in Washington. This year’s theme is “Island Getaway”. Come enjoy appetizers, a tropical inspired dinner, live steel pan drum performed by Stanley Dahl, dancing and a small auction. For more information see the flyer on the bulletin board.



John & Loretta Kauffman have lived in this community and attended church at East Union for many years. About 18 months ago, John suffered from a stroke that now requires ongoing medical care and specialized expenses such as a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, mechanical lift, and hiring extra help. To help the family with expenses, a benefit brunch will be held on Saturday, February 19 from 8:00 – 11:00 AM at Iowa Mennonite School. There will also be a silent auction ending at 10:45 AM, live auction from 11:00 AM – Noon, bake sale and entertainment by The Great Bluegrass Herons. Donations, auction items and volunteers are welcome, and greatly appreciated. Iowa City-area Christians are invited to come together for a dialogue with theologian, activist, author and speaker Brian McLaren, and one another, to consider the challenges facing the church today. McLaren will give a free public presentation on “Following Jesus in the 21st Century” at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 4. He will then lead a workshop for lay leaders and clergy on “Transforming Christian Community in the 21st Century” from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 5. The workshop is $15 or whatever is affordable. First Mennonite Church in Iowa City is a major sponsor of this event and would like to see a good size Mennonite presence for the public lecture.
