Sunday morning prayer time at WMC – Come to church at 8:50 AM each Sunday morning for a time of prayer for any concerns you may have. Everyone is welcome.
Grant & Edie will be going to Los Vegas on Thursday to attend a wedding. They are returning Sunday evening. Contact the elders, Gay Widmer, Becky Widmer, Francis Litwiller, if a need arises.
I will begin my series of sermons on the Lord’s Prayer on January 30. I invite anyone who wants to have a pre-sermon discussion on this topic to a Subway sandwich lunch on Tuesday, January 25 at church at 12:15. We will talk about the upcoming topic, “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name”. We will be finished at 12:55. –Grant
Knotting Comforters: An all-church knotting party will be held at the church on Wednesday evening, January 26, starting at 6 PM. The sewing group works hard for the MCC Sale and other causes. Let’s support them with a time of work and fellowship. Bring a can of soup, (nothing weird), to mix with others and we’ll have soup and relish for supper. Everyone is welcome.
Mennonite Mission Prayer Request: Pray for an end to the persecution of Christians in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Mary Raber of Mennonite Mission Network, who teaches in theological seminaries in the Ukraine, asks that God would give the brothers and sisters there the courage to be faithful.
Preaching schedule for January—
• January 23: Josh Lundberg
• January 30: Grant Nebel, Our Father who art in heaven

The Outreach and Service Ministry is working at the creation of a “Picture Wall” on the bulletin board containing pictures of the families and individuals who attend our congregation. If you would like to contribute a picture of your family, that would be great. Committee members will also be taking pictures over the next weeks. We don’t want to miss anybody, so be sure to let us know if your picture doesn’t get posted on the “Picture Wall”. To contribute your picture, or have us take one, see a member of our committee: Tim Widmer, Mike Bates, Carol Detweiler, Grant Nebel, and Roger Farmer.

Your chance will come tomorrow evening, January 17, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Iowa City Pizza Ranch in the Sycamore Mall. All tips and 20% of the proceeds from sales of the meal will go toward the choir as they prepare to participate in the 2011 Music Festival in San Juan. To have the proceeds go toward IMS, you must present a coupon, which is available by accessing the IMS Web site: www.iowamennonite.org and choosing the “Music/Drama” tab; go to “Pizza Ranch Coupon” and print off the coupon. Thank you for your wonderful support of the music department!

(We are looking for more convention stories for our Testimonials section, so please go to the “Why Come?” tab and tell us how conventions have inspired you.)
John & Loretta Kauffman have lived in this community and attended church at East Union for many years. About 18 months ago, John suffered from a stroke that now requires ongoing medical care and specialized expenses such as a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, mechanical lift, and hiring extra help. To help the family with expenses, a benefit brunch will be held on Saturday, February 19 from 8:00 – 11:00 AM at Iowa Mennonite School. There will also be a silent auction ending at 10:45 AM, live auction from 11:00 AM – Noon, bake sale and entertainment by The Great Bluegrass Herons. Donations, auction items and volunteers are welcome, and greatly appreciated. Please contact Phil & Judy Yoder (358.9648; pgyoderatgmail.com) or Marv & Grace Rempel (683.2681; marvgracerempelat netins.net) if you would like to volunteer or make a donation.
