Washington Mennonite

▪ Offering for 7/22/18 - Regular offering: $415

We welcome Gerry Klopfenstein from Wayland Mennonite here with us as part of The SouthEast Iowa Pastor Cluster’s Pulpit Exchange.  Amanda is preaching at Wayland Mennonite this morning.

Dinner Theatre 2018 is coming up!  Look for a sign-up sheet in your mailboxes today to designate where you would like to be involved. There are a lot of different opportunities for everyone. Return completed forms to Edie’s mailbox or email your responses to the address found on the form at your earliest convenience. Thanks for your consideration!

Camp Reece is a residential summer camp for children with special needs located at the Lake Darling Youth Camp.  Camp Reece leaders have asked if Washington MC could assist with the camp on Tuesday evening, August 7, with around ten volunteers and 12 dozen cookies (either baked or purchased).  We can carpool and leave the church around 5:45 pm in order to arrive at the Lake Darling Youth Camp by 6:30 pm.  Please sign up to volunteer or provide cookies or both in the foyer.  This is short notice, so if we do not have enough volunteers, we will not be able to go.  Please sign up today (July 29) if interested.

School Kits! Yes, it is that time again. We are collecting school kits for children around the world who don’t have the necessary supplies. In the foyer you’ll find bags and a list of items that go into the kit. We have a limited amount of bags this year but bring your items and we’ll see that they get to MCC. Thanks for your generosity.

SundaySucCentral Plains Conference
▪ Central Plains Mennonite Conference Prayer Request:  Pray for Shana Peachey Boshart as she ends her tenure with Central Plains on Tuesday and begins as faith formation minister for MC USA on Wednesday.

Mennonite Agencies
Opportunities to learn about immigration and respond with MCC. MCC works with the issue of migration around the world and walks with people who migrate, people who struggle not to migrate and people who provide hospitality to migrants in many places.
Learn: Consider participating in the MCC Migration Learning Tour to Guatemala and Honduras on November 7-17.
Pray: Pray for the migrants who made the difficult choice to
leave their home communities in the hope of a better life, for the detained immigrants as they wait in detention and for the border portal agents to execute their job justly and humanely.
Advocate: Contact your elected officials to express your desire for more humane immigration policies.
Serve: Become an immigration court watcher through the Interfaith Community for Detained Immigrants.
Give: Support our work to support the reunification of families on the South Texas Border.  Within the coming weeks, 1500-2000 families are expected to be released from detention. MCC is working with local partners to support families with locally purchased grocery gift cards, clothing and housing assistance. Checks made out to MCC with “Central States Immigration” in the memo line will go directly to support this response. Checks should be sent to MCC U.S., PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. Or you can donate money to MCC for ongoing work with issues surrounding immigration.
For more information on how you can get involved, visit mcc.org/immigration.

▪ Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Praise God with the Sicite people of Burkina Faso who can now read the New Testament in their heart language. Pray for Anne Garber Kompaoré of Mennonite Mission Network, who helped to launch this translation three decades ago, and for her husband, Daniel, as they continue God’s work in Burkina.
