▪ THANKS to all who came out to help with
corn on Wednesday. With
the help of many hands, we froze 18 gallons for Dinner Theatre this fall. It is
proof that “many hands make light work”!
▪ The Monthly Quilting Day is this Wednesday, July 18 starting at 10 a.m. Lunch will be a potluck, but
dessert will be provided.
▪ Saturday Kitchen: will be hosted by WMC Saturday noon July 28th at
the United Presbyterian Church here in Washington. Signup sheets for
workers and donated food items are on the table in the foyer. Please join
us as we prepare and serve a hot meal to local persons who look forward to
eating with others around a table. Saturday Kitchen is a joint ministry of the
churches of Washington and is welcoming to all regardless of church
affiliation. If you have questions or
comments please contact Gloria Widmer Sue Widmer or Phyllis Litwiller

▪ Pie Bakers Needed | The IMS PTO will have a booth at RAGBRAI on July 27 in
Wellman. We're hoping your church will donate 10-15 pies to feed the hungry
bikers. Please let Kim Blauvelt know how many pies you can provide at kimkblauvelt@yahoo.com or
text Kim at 319-936-5204. If you'd like to experience RAGBRAI but aren't ready
to ride a bike, we're also looking for volunteers for our food booth. Please
contact Kim if you'd like to volunteer!
▪ IMS Workdays | We are gathering together to give the IMS campus some TLC. This idea was brought forth by parents of current students, discussed with Joe Swartzendruber and spearheaded by the PTO.
Joe has provided a list of tasks on the school's to do
list that don't get finished because there are never enough 'hours in the day'.
What we need from the IMS community is manpower, supplies and time. We're not
asking for a lot of any of the above. As the saying goes, 'Many hands make
light work', so let's make it happen! We need painters, cleaners, gardeners,
craftsman, anyone willing to put forth the effort and enjoy time working
together for the same goal - to improve the IMS facilities. Here's the
sign-up for the IMS work days. We hope to see you there! https://www.signup genius.com/go/ 10c0945acab29a3fa7-imscampus

MCC on a Learning Tour to Explore the Root Causes of Migration in Guatemala and
Honduras, November 7-17. Guatemala and Honduras, are countries
from which the US, and increasingly Mexico, are receiving the majority of its
immigrants. Honduras and Guatemala are both within the top 10 most violent
countries in the world, plagued by gang presence, political corruption, and
lack of economic opportunity that permit the realities to exist that drive
people from their homeland. MCC seeks to educate and expose Learning Tour
participants to the realities that many people face that result in migration,
internally and to foreign countries. This Learning Tour will provide firsthand
stories, opportunities to meet the people as well as the organizations that are
walking with them, participate in the rich culture, and witness the efforts of
Guatemalans and Hondurans who are striving for positive change in their
communities. Throughout the course of the tour, we hope to explore various
perspectives on the topic, learn about how our decisions impact migrants, plant
the seeds for ongoing connections, and learn about practical ways to support
and advocate for the people and communities that we encounter. Approximate cost
will be $700 (plus airfare). For more information or to sign up for this trip
please contact chrislandes@mcc.org.
