Washington Mennonite

▪ Offering for 7/15/18 - Regular offering: $1985; HACAP: $200; Saturday Kitchen: $60

This is the 1st Sunday of The SouthEast Iowa Pastor Cluster’s Pulpit Exchange.  We welcome Bob Hartzler from Sugar Creek here with us this morning.  Amanda is preaching at Zion Mennonite  this morning.

School Kits! Yes, it is that time again. We are collecting school kits for children around the world who don’t have the necessary supplies. In the foyer you’ll find bags and a list of items that go into the kit. We have a limited amount of bags this year but bring your items and we’ll see that they get to MCC. Thanks for your generosity.

Saturday Kitchen will be hosted by WMC this week Saturday July 28th at the United Presbyterian Church here in Washington.  Completed sign-up sheets for workers and donated food items are on the table in the foyer.  Please check the sheets as a reminder of what you signed up for and also for food items and workers  that we may still need.  If you have questions please contact either Phyllis Litwiller or Gloria Widmer.  Thank you for helping us as we prepare and serve a hot meal to persons in our community who look forward to eating with others around a table.

Iowa Mennonite School

IMS Workdays | We are gathering together to give the IMS campus some TLC. This idea was brought forth by parents of current students, discussed with Joe Swartzendruber and spearheaded by the PTO.
Joe has provided a list of tasks on the school's to do list that don't get finished because there are never enough 'hours in the day'. What we need from the IMS community is manpower, supplies and time. We're not asking for a lot of any of the above. As the saying goes, 'Many hands make light work', so let's make it happen! We need painters, cleaners, gardeners, craftsman, anyone willing to put forth the effort and enjoy time working together for the same goal - to improve the IMS facilities. Here's the sign-up for the IMS work days. We hope to see you there! https://www.signup genius.com/go/10c0945acab29a3fa7-imscampus

SundaySucCentral Plains Conference

▪ Central Plains Mennonite Conference Prayer Request:  Pray for the youth, sponsors and volunteers gathered this morning for worship at Youth Escape 2018, that they would encounter the transforming love of God and respond with joy. Also, today John Tyson is being installed as pastor at Des Moines Mennonite Church. Pray for John and the congregation as they begin their ministry together.

Mennonite Agencies

Girls ages 13–18 and women of all ages, please join Mennonite Women USA and Dove's Nest July 26-27, 2018, in Omaha for “Empowering Women: Claiming Healthy Personal Boundaries,” an intergenerational gathering to provide practical resources and support on healthy boundary management. Opportunities to learn about immigration and respond with MCC. MCC works with the issue of migration around the world and walks with people who migrate, people who struggle not to migrate and people who provide hospitality to migrants in many places.
Learn: Consider participating in the MCC Migration Learning Tour to Guatemala and Honduras on November 7-17.
Pray: Pray for the migrants who made the difficult choice to leave their home communities in the hope of a better life, for the detained immigrants as they wait in detention and for the border portal agents to execute their job justly and humanely.
Advocate: Contact your elected officials to express your desire for more humane immigration policies.
Serve: Become an immigration court watcher through the Interfaith Community for Detained Immigrants.
Give: Support our work to support the reunification of families on the South Texas Border.  Within the coming weeks, 1500-2000 families are expected to be released from detention. MCC is working with local partners to support families with locally purchased grocery gift cards, clothing and housing assistance. Checks made out to MCC with “Central States Immigration” in the memo line will go directly to support this response. Checks should be sent to MCC U.S., PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. Or you can donate money to MCC for ongoing work with issues surrounding immigration.
For more information on how you can get involved, visit mcc.org/immigration.

▪ Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  This month, Jane and Jerrell Ross Richer and their four children leave Ecuador to begin the North American portion of their two-way mission through Mennonite Mission Network. Pray for them as they transition between cultures and bring God’s call to faithfulness to churches in the United States.
