▪ Washington Mennonite Church will be hosting Saturday
Kitchen at the United Presbyterian Church this week on Saturday November 5th,
2016. All of the donated food items have been
signed up for. Double check the lists in the foyer and remember what you
signed for and what help we are still needing. We are still needing help
to serve the meal and clean up. We are asking that you wear your black
RAGBRAI shirts at Saturday Kitchen. Saturday Kitchen continues to meet a
need in our community as a need for a hot meal and also to fellowship around a
table with others. As workers we
are blessed as we work together and also meet and greet the guests.

Birthday Breakfast Club If
your birthday is in November or December, join Amanda for breakfast at 9:30 at
the church on November 12.
▪ Friends, it
appears that Pastor Max has run out of legal options for returning to the United States.
Friends of Pastor Max is initiating a call to prayer that God would make a way
for Max to be reunited with his family. We
invite you to set aside one meal on the first Tuesday of every month to fast
and pray for the Villatoro's to be reunited, whether in the US or elsewhere.
Our hope is in God alone, and to God we will make our plea.

Grant's old
office is now the music room. You will
find music stands, rhythm instruments and binders that used to be located on
the front bench of the sanctuary there. Please return items to this space
when you are finished using them. Thanks for your cooperation with

Crooked Creek
Christian Camp
▪ November 10
is Annual Meeting. Join the Board of Directors and
staff for dinner at 6:15pm followed by a program as we
celebrate the past year of camp ministry. All interested in learning and
hearing more about Crooked Creek Christian Camp are invited to attend.

to the Table Craft Retreat. This bring-your-own-craft weekend
features an opportunity to work on your project and connect with others as

you a high school student looking for a fun way to make a little extra money?
Learn to belay Saturday November 19th at 4:00 pm and become a Crooked
Creek climbing wall belayer! Once you've passed the training, camp can call
on you to assist with guest groups that want to use the climbing wall. It's a
great way to learn a new skill, meet other people and earn some extra cash.

In The House On The Corner will be showing in Celebration Hall on November 5 at 7:00PM and on November

▪ November 6 - Backstage Tour: Prospective Family event following
the play. Get a backstage tour, meet the cast, crew and directors of the fall
play and ask them questions about being involved in the drama department in
high school. Don't forget to call to the school to reserve your tickets -
middle school students are free.
▪ FFA – fruit, cheese and sausage sales continue through November 11. Contact any IMS FFA member or call
the office to order fruit. Items will be delivered the first week of December.

▪ The one act Christmas opera, Amahl and the Night
Visitors, by Gian-Carlo Menotti, will be on the Celebration Hall stage
for one
night only, December 17 at 7:30 PM. Come experience the story of the
three Magi’s visit to the home of Amahl, the crippled shepherd boy and his
mother, while on their journey to seek the Christ child. Tickets are $15

Conference Prayer Request: This
first Tuesday of the month, join Friends of Pastor Max
and conference ministers in fasting and praying for the Max and Gloria
Villatoro Family, that God would make a way for them to be reunited.
Mennonite Agencies
▪ Ten Thousand Villages opened its doors
on October 1 and is experiencing a warm welcome to downtown Iowa City.
Thank you for your encouragement and support in helping bring a permanent store
to Iowa. Sales have been great and visitors are very receptive to fair trade
and the artisans' products that Villages sell. The store will continue to be
successful with the help of volunteers. Persons
interested in volunteering (preferably two shifts a month) may contact iowacity@tenthousandvillages.com.
Stop by the store at 105 S Dubuque St. to see the beautiful variety of
hand-crafted items and support the artisans in 34 countries.
▪ Mennonite Mission Network (MMN) Prayer Request: Delicia Bravo and Peter Wigginton of Mennonite
Mission Network use their gifts in music, education, and children’s and youth
ministries in the programs of the Mennonite churches in Ecuador. Pray for them
as they also serve as coordinators for partnerships with churches in Colombia
and the United States.

Union Mennonite Church is hosting a special weekend focus on Worship on
November 11-13.
Rebecca Slough, Academic Dean and
Associate Professor of Worship and the Arts at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical
Seminary, is our featured speaker for the weekend. Our theme is "We
are here to worship...Now What?" On Friday night, we will meet for a
light supper and then hear an introductory presentation on "Why
Worship?" The conversation continues on Saturday morning with
"What is Worship?" On Saturday afternoon, Rebecca will lead a
workshop for worship leaders, scripture readers and story tellers. In the
evening, Rebecca will lead us
in a hymn sing. It will be a full weekend. If you are interested in attending all or any part of this weekend, you are welcome to come, free of charge. If you are interested, please let Candi Schmieder, our Administrative Assistant know of how many might be coming so we can prepare accordingly.
▪ Bryan
Moyer Suderman will be speaking at Sugar Creek Mennonite on Nov.
13-15. Bryan is known for his engaging
and interactive style of speaking, teaching and song leading. He will explore
the Gospel of Matthew, paying close attention to the way Jesus is depicted as
interpreter of Scripture. Come and join us as we engage the Bible with Bryan
for fall special meetings: Sunday, Nov. 13, 6pm; Monday Nov. 14, 7 pm; Tuesday, Nov. 15
MYF Chili supper at 5-7 pm with the service beginning at
7 pm.
▪ John A. Roetlin will be the featured
guest at the fall meeting of the Mennonite Historical Society of Iowa.
This event will be at 7:00 p.m. on November 14, 2016 at the Kalona Mennonite Church Fellowship
Hall. This is open to the public. Please come to hear stories from
John as he speaks about “The Kalona Cheese factory, a window into local farm and
community life,” (1947-2014). There will also be an opportunity to join
the society, subscribe to the society’s quarterly newsletter “Reflections”,
purchase apple butter and re-new your membership.
▪ Thanksgiving
is right around the corner. If you need a dessert, you are in luck!
Dan Fisher and his helpers will once
again be baking pumpkin cheesecakes to raise money for the Kalona Mennonite
International Student Aid Fund. Our current project is supporting Rudi
Mucaj from Albania, who is currently in his second year at Goshen

MDS Region III Meeting will be held at Kalona Mennonite
Church November 18 and
19. Friday evening is the banquet
and program. Saturday are the business
and information meetings. Registration is $25 plus any meals. See
