Thank you for helping with our Saturday Kitchen yesterday.  It is a great way for us to work together in meal preparation, serving and clean up.  It is a ministry that we as a church are involved in the community here in Washington, IA.  The next Saturday Kitchen will be December 5th.  – Phyllis, Gloria and Sandy

Anyone with interest in singing in the prison choir in Mt Pleasant is welcome.  Additional volunteers are needed, especially men.  Rehearsals will be on Tuesday evenings starting October 13th.  See Roger Farmer, Tim Widmer or Edie Nebel for more information.

Villatoro Family Blend coffee is available for purchase in the foyer for $15/bag.  Proceeds from the coffee sales go to the Villatoro compassion fund, which assists with expenses of the family and legal expenses for Max.  Checks can be made to Villatoro Family Compassion fund and left in the basket.


Iowa Mennonite School

IMS is hosting a Clergy Appreciation Day on Wednesday, October 14, from 11:00am – 2:00pm.  Area clergy will enjoy coffee and conversations with principal Steve Schrag; chapel; lunch with the students; and a chance to sit in on the junior-level Church & Anabaptist History class.  Please RSVP on-line: http://www.iowamennonite.org/online-registrati on/ -- or call the school for more information.

Students in 6th-8th grade, as well as prospective transfer students, are invited to a hayride at IMS on Saturday, October 17, from 5-8pm.  Families are invited as well.  IMS’ FFA will host the event, which will include a hayride around the neighborhood, food, and entertainment.  Registration takes place at http://www.iowamennonite.org/online-registration/ -- or by contacting Candi Schmieder at IMS.


Central Plains Conference

The Sower Prayer Request:  Today, Chris and Kimberly Becker will be installed as pastors at Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Pray for the Beckers and for Emmanuel Mennonite as they begin their ministry together.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Mary Beyler of MMN is attending a different Mennonite congregation in Hokkaido, Japan, each Sunday this month.  Pray for her today as she preaches and engages through a music ministry of piano accompaniment and teaching new hymns.


Area Announcements

Ten Thousand Villages, Iowa City will be returning with two pop-up stores this year!  The downtown Iowa City store will be in the former Whitey’s space at 112 E Washington St and the second location will be in the newly re-opening Schlabaugh and Sons Woodworking showroom in Kalona,  Both will be open from mid-October through December and will again need many volunteers.  If interested in bringing fairly-traded products to our communities, consider volunteering and send an email with the subject line “volunteering” to iowacity at tenthousandvillages.com.

Washington Community Blood Drive – Thursday, October 15, 1:30-6:30 PM United Presbyterian Church, 209 East Washington Street.  Optimist Club of Washington is the host to this event.  Contact is Don Pfeiffer 319.653.4912.  Blood donor card or Photo Identification required.

Fall Special Meetings at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Anton Flores-Maisonet – October 25-27:  What does it look like to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in a world increasingly filled with the complexities of fear and injustice?  How is God inviting us to respond as the hands and feet of Jesus to the people around us who are rejected, hurting, forgotten and often mistreated?  Join us as we hear from Anton Flores-Maisonet, co-founder of Alterna, a bilingual community of Chirst-followers in Georgia devoted to faithful acts of hospitality, mercy, and justice.  Anton will be speaking during Sunday morning worship at 10:30am as well as 6pm Sunday evening and 7pm on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

The Annual meeting for Mennonite Disaster Service Region III will be held October 30-31, 2015 at; The Ark on Table Rock Lake, Conference Center, 1190 State Hwy. East, Eagle Rock, Missouri 65641.  You are invited to attend.  Check with your Church office for a registration form.
