Crooked Creek Christian Camp

Crooked Creek Christian Camp of Washington, IA, is looking for an experienced and energetic Food Service Manager to start on or about May 15, 2015.  This position will provide overall leadership to the kitchens for year-round guests with a reputation of great hospitality and great food including summer camp and events.  The full job description can be

During Sundays in March (1, 8, 15, 22, 29) camp is hosting open gym afternoons from 3-6pm at the camp Activity Center.  This is a free family event open to all.

       
Iowa Mennonite School

A “Piano Hullabaloo” is taking place at IMS on Saturday, Feb 28th, from 1-5pm; the event will take place throughout the school, and is for all age groups.  There will be musical

performances, games, and piano-inspired events.  One need NOT be a pianist to enjoy the activities!  There will be drum circles, an opportunity to play with a back-up band, a scavenger hunt…and much, much more!  There’s no charge, but a donation box to help with expenses.  Come one, come all!

Kaylin Brokaw will present a senior recital on Saturday, Mar 7th at 7pm.  Kaylin is the daughter of Joel and Karma Brokaw.

Students (and parents) interested in attending IMS for the first time in the fall of 2015 are invited to an informational session on the IMS campus, on Tuesday, March 3, at 7pm.  Teachers and administrators will be present, and will answer questions and provide valuable information about registration, curriculum, etc…and will be available to discuss options with prospective families.  Refreshments will also be served.  Please contact the school for further information.

The IMS Alumni Assoc and the Washington Township Optimists will collaborate to host and serve the annual Turkey Steak Supper at IMS, on Saturday, March 14th.  Serving will be in the cafeteria (lower level of the gym) from 4:30-7:30pm.  The meal, to include turkey steak, baked potato, tossed salad, dinner roll, and homemade dessert, will be by donation only.  Please contact the school for more information.

IMS (’09) and Goshen graduate Abbie Miller has her drawings on display in the school’s art gallery.  The exhibit will run through the end of the semester.  Her show is open during public events and also by making arrangements with the IMS office.


Central Plains Conference

The Sower Prayer Request:  Next weekend, the conference board meets in Omaha.  Pray for them as they discern together with the Holy Spirit how to lead our conference.


Mennonite Agencies

Learn with MCC!  Everyone is invited to this special Mennonite Central Committee event on Saturday, Feb 28th at 9am in the Luyken Fine Arts Center on the campus of Bethel College in North Newton, KS.  MCC Central States program staff is teaming up with MCC US staff to provide resources and a time of mutual learning on the topics of: immigration, sexualized and gender based violence, Doctrine of Discovery and Indigenous people and militarization within the US.  Lunch at Mojo’s Coffee Shop (also on the Bethel campus) will follow the seminars.  If you plan to attend, please email tinaschrag at mcc.org or call 316.283.2720!

The Iowa Unit annual MDS meeting will be held at 2:00pm, March 1st, at Kalona Mennonite Church.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request: Thank God for MMN personnel involved in building relationships with Muslims.  Pray for their protection and that they may find appropriate and compassionate ways to bridge this great divide in today’s world.


Area Announcements

On behalf of Restore Innocence, Jane & Andy Swartzentruber will be hosting a human trafficking awareness event at Upper Deer Creek Church on Sunday, Feb 22nd at 7pm.  The evening will consist of a brief overview of two phenomenal non-profit organizations working to end human trafficking, as well as the screening of Nefarious: Merchant of Souls, a documentary produced by Exodus Cry.  While this film is not rated, Exodus Cry recommends viewing to those 18 and older, given the disturbing and intense content of the film.  Please contact Jane Swartzentruber with questions at janer777 at hotmail.com

JPOG (Just Peace Outreach Group) invites you to hear Dean Rhodes describe his experiences on “El Camino de Santiago,” a 500 mile Christian pilgrimage in northern Spain.  Over 200, 000 persons walked this path in 2014 in a search for spiritual inspiration among the plains and mountains of northern Spain.  Join us to hear about Dean’s experiences and see pictures of his trip on Sunday evening, Feb 22nd, at East Union Mennonite Church, 5615 Gable Ave, Kalona, IA at 6pm for a finger-foods potluck and conversation (please bring your own table service) or at 7pm for Dean’s presentation and discussion.  For more info call Roger Farmer at 319.653.2547 or email Jane Yoder-Short at yodershort at netins.net.

The Spring meeting of the Crowded Closet Association will be held Monday, March 16th, 7pm at First Mennonite Church, Iowa City.  ALL volunteers and interested persons are invited to attend and learn of the latest happenings at the Closet.

Team Haiti at Bethel church will host a Taco Dinner in the fellowship hall, on Sunday, MARCH 29th at 12pm.  A free will donation will be taken.
