Iowa Mennonite School

Pastors of IMS students are encouraged to attend Clergy Appreciation Day at the school, on Friday, Oct 4.  Pastors are invited to attend chapel at 10:30 am, followed by a time of informal discussion with IMS personnel (including a chance to dialogue with our Bible instructors).  All are invited to have lunch on campus and spend time with students.  Please contact Candi Schmieder or the school office for more information.

IMS’s Fall Music Concert will be held on Sunday, Oct 6 at 3pm.  The concert will include performances by the choirs, symphonic band, and smaller ensembles, all under the direction of Josh Tyson.  Following the concert, all 6th-8th grade students are invited to enjoy a hayride and refreshments.

Peace Pies & Prophets is come to the area! The popular performance by Ted Swartz of Ted & Co fame will make an appearance at IMS on Saturday, Oct 12.  It’s the same evening as the annual Junior Class Pork Supper, so come and enjoy dinner and a show. Meal tickets are available from any IMS junior (or by calling the office), and there is no admission charge for the show in Celebration Hall…although there will be a free-will offering along with a pie auction as a part of the show.  Proceeds from the show will benefit both Christian Peacemaker Teams and IMS; your support will be much appreciated! Everence is helping sponsor the event, and the local JPOG group is also lending a hand in securing pies and volunteers. It promises to be a fun evening, which begins with the meal (4-7 pm); live music at 6:30; and the show at 7:30. Please contact Larry Swartzendruber at IMS for more information.

Please consider hiring one or more IMS students on October 18 for the Fall Work Day…and in the process support the school’s Student Aid Fund.  Students are available to do yard work, cleaning or any jobs, with all wages turned in to the school in support of financial assistance.  Please call Mary Lou Gingerich at the school for more information.

Mennonite Agencies

An information meeting on advance care planning will be held on Tuesday, Oct 8, at 7pm in the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall.  Kent Blossom and Deb Roth will discuss different levels of care and procedures normally spelled out in living wills and durable power of attorneys, etc.  This meeting is for everyone but especially retirement age individuals and children with elderly parents.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:   Thank God for Scott Litwiller’s ministry in Colombia through MMN.  Pray for Scott as he transitions to the next steps in his life and as he applies what God taught him during his time of service.  Pray also for the Mennonite youth in Colombia.

Prayers for faith and learning:  Pray for the Goshen College – Greencroft Communities Connection reception being held today to initiate a new mentoring opportunity for GC students and Greencroft retirement community residents.  Through this new initiative GC students and Greencroft residents will be invited to meet together to share about their lives, joys, challenges and blessings.

Area Churches

Kenton & Kidron Miller invite you to an evening of “Kaffee & Kuchen” (coffee and cake) on Sunday, Oct 6 at 5:30pm at Upper Deer Creek Church.  Come worship God, hear how He is leading our family to church plant in Berlin, Germany and how you can be a part of sending us out!  Here’s your chance to taste a “Berliner” (jelly-filled doughnut).

Revelation: Through the Eyes of Faith.  Come to Iowa Mennonite School the evenings of Oct 30 and 31 for a bible event hosted by 7 area Mennonite churches!  Nelson Kraybill (former seminary president, current president-elect to Mennonite World Conference, pastor and scholar), will come together with local artist and pastor Martha Yoder to bring new insights to the hope and doom in the book of Revelation by exploring the intersection of art and study.  Contact Nathan.wmchurch at gmail.com for more info.

Business Leaders and Pastors: Partners in Leadership and Ministry  As followers of Christ, both business leaders and pastors want to work for God’s purposes in the world.  Yet despite this common desire, business leaders and pastors sometimes encounter barriers to pursuing a shared vision. Join other Christian business leaders and pastors for a conversation at the Parkside Activities Center in Wellman on Saturday, Nov 23, 8:30am-12:30pm, sponsored by the Center for Faith and Business, AMBS, MCUSA, and Mennonite Economic Development Associates.  Early registration deadline is Nov 11.  For more information go to www.centerfaithbusiness.org or contct Anna Geyer, David Boshart or Erin Ramer at info at centerfaithbusiness.org.
