Lenten study. This will
take place on three Thursday evenings in March (March 8,
15 and 22). If you would like to
participate in a study, please contact Amanda and indicate your preference
for either Praying the News or Being in Community as a study
topic.
▪ Saturday Kitchen was hosted by WMC on Saturday February 3rd, 2018.
We served 105 plates of ham and scallop potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls,
grapes and Valentine Cookies. We also made 19 carry outs. A big
thank you to everyone who helped in the kitchen, served or donated food.
We always enjoy working together as we do food prep, serve or do clean
up. Our guests enjoy the food and fellowship. Our next time to host

▪ Singing Valentines | The IMS Chamber
Choir will be delivering singing valentines in the local area on Wednesday February 14.
For a donation of $35 for individuals and $60 for groups, the 6-voice acappella
ensemble will make a surprise visit to homes or place of business, offering
valentines greetings. To schedule a Singing Valentine call the office at 319-656-2073.
▪ Senior Recital | At 3:00PM on Sunday February 18 Emma
Beachy will present her senior recital in Celebration Hall at IMS. The
public is invited to join Emma for an afternoon of music and thank you for your
support of the fine arts at IMS!
▪ Visit
Day | 8th grade and transfer students are invited to visit
IMS for a day on February 19. Register to attend at www.iowamennonite.or g/visit.
▪ IMS Cafe | This years
Culinary Arts Class restaurant dates are February 28 and
March 14, 28. The restaurant opens at 8:30AM each day and the
menu will include various entrees, sides, and desserts. Reservations are
required and can be made by calling the school office 319-656-2073. Cost per
person is $8.

seminars provide women with tools for ongoing personal healing, for recognizing
and celebrating God's grace in their lives, and for responding more confidently
to the needs of others. Sister Care is a ministry of Mennonite Women USA
and will be led by Rhoda Keener, former director of Mennonite Women USA, and

Conference Prayer Request: Pray for the churches in the Nebraska cluster
as they prepare to host Central Plains Annual Meeting 2018 June 21-24 in
Lincoln. Pray especially for the host committee, chaired by Seth Miller, a
pastor at Bethesda Mennonite in Henderson.

▪ Everence® to hold seminar
on commodity giving – Everence will
present an informative seminar on the topic of farm commodity giving on Monday, Feb. 12 (10
a.m. and 6:30 p.m.). The presentation will explain
how the gifting of commodities can provide support for church and charities
while also reducing taxes. The recent tax reform may make commodity
giving even more advantageous for farmers. The information will be presented by
Lyle Miller, Everence Stewardship Consultant, and will be held at Kalona Public Library, 510 C Ave. To reserve your

staff of Mennonite Central Committee Central States for our annual meeting
on Friday, February 23 at 10:30am at the MCC Center (121
E. 30th, North Newton, KS 67117).
▪ MDS Iowa Annual Meeting will be held on March 4, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the
Lower Deer Creek Church. Also, we need volunteers/nominees to serve on
the Iowa MDS Unit Board. (4 year term).
▪ Mennonite Mission Network Prayer
Request: Join Mennonite
Mission Network in praising God for the growth of Christ’s body in Israel. A
mission worker reports that when the nation was founded in 1948, only 12 Jewish
people counted themselves believers. Now, there are about 25,000-30,000
believers in approximately 300 Arab and Messianic congregations.

interested in volunteering in new Halcyon House households for a few hours/week, or occasionally during the month, in
order to provide a friendly smile, play a game of checkers, or share any

West Union Mennonite Church will be having an Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday, February 14 at
7:00 p.m. All are invited to attend.

Church. This is a casual, relaxed time of praise, worship and testimony and all

Kalona MOPS Meal, Feb 25th – Join Us for a delicious lunch
featuring smoked pork loin, party potatoes, strawberry lettuce salad, green
beans, fluff, and better than anything cake on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the
Kalona Mennonite Church from 11:30-1:00pm.
There will be a free will offering and carry out is available.

You are invited to an informational meeting/training
for Safe Families for Children, a volunteer organization whose mission is "to
keep children safe and families intact." The training will be
held at Lower Deer Creek on Saturday, March 3, 2018, from 9 - Noon. Safe Families volunteers
temporarily host children and provide a network of support to families in
crisis while they get back on their feet through the service of host families,
family friends, and family coaches.The organization's goal is to bridge
the gap for families before DHS services are necessary or to fulfill a need
that is unmet by other social service agencies. Please RSVP to the
Lower Deer Creek church office at 656-2076 if you are interested in
attending. Come and learn more about this opportunity to offer Biblical
hospitality to children and families in crisis.
