May 2017 My Coins Count - Bring your coins for the My Coins Count (MyCC) offering throughout the month of May. Coins will join with others across Iowa and around the world to be used for water projects and sand dams in Mozambique. 

It is time to begin the process of discerning a new elder. Myron Graber has served two terms and is not eligible for another term. Please be in prayer as you consider who God might be calling to serve Washington Mennonite in this way. Nominations will be received during the worship service on Sunday, May 21. If you have questions, see Amanda or one of the elders.

 Quilting will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Wed., May 17 at the church. There will be a new quilt started and also a comforter to knot! Joanne Roth will provide lunch. Join us!

 WMC will be serving the noon meal for Saturday Kitchen at the Washington United Presbyterian Church on Saturday May 27th, 2017.  Saturday Kitchen sign -up sheets are located on the table in the foyer for both workers and donated food items.  Food items should be at the Presbyterian Church  by 10:00 AM on Saturday May 27th.  Please check the sign-up


sheets and join us as we work together to serve our guests a warm meal at the church and make carry outs for persons in the community needing a meal.  Saturday Kitchen is a ministry of WMC and we are blessed as we serve and the guests are blessed as they enjoy the warm meal and fellowship around the dining table.

Church Garage Sale Saturday, June 10thThis summer we'll hold a garage sale at the church to raise money for the MYF trip to Mennonite Youth Convention. Be saving garage sale items to donate.

Iowa Mennonite School

Spring Music Concert TODAY May 14 at 2:30PM in Celebration Hall. The Chorale, Symphonic Band, Chamber Singers and Touring Choir will be performing. All are welcome to attend.

Graduation Exercises will be held Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21. Baccalaureate speaker will be Gloria Villatoro; mother of graduating senior, Anthony. She currently is full-time pastor of Torre Fuerte Mennonite Church, Iowa City. Senior student speakers will be Calli Shaw, daughter of Rich & Angie Shaw and Cole Yoder, son of Randy & Paula Yoder. Commencement speaker will be Amy Gingerich, Hudson, Ohio (IMS ’95) who serves as editor at Herald Press books and editorial director at Menno Media. Both services begin at 6:00PM in Celebration Hall.

Into The Black: A Ten Year Celebration Friday, June 9 at 7:30PM. The entire community is invited to attend this end-of-year fundraiser event that will celebrate the fine arts at IMS through many alumni performances, marking the ten year anniversary of Celebration Hall. In between the performances, meals will be presented through short vignettes that will be auctioned off. More info on Facebook.

Mennonite Church USA Executive Director, Ervin Stutzman will hold an informational meeting about the upcoming convention in Orlando at Washington Mennonite Church (815 E. Polk St, Washington, IA) on Tuesday, May 30 at 7pm. Ervin will provide an overview to the agenda for the delegate sessions as well as an orientation to the Future Church Summit process. Delegates and anyone else interested are welcome to attend.
People approaching retirement have quite a few decisions to make regarding Medicare and Social Security. That’s why Everence is offering Medicare Mondays, a series of seminars designed to help people make informed decisions about both federal programs. The seminars are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. May 15, July 10 and Nov. 13 at Kalona Public Library.
