Washington Mennonite

Offering for 8/21/16:  Regular Offering: $2,650

The Church’s fiscal year ends on August 31, which means that today is the last Sunday in our fiscal year.  In order to meet our financial obligations, we need $6,226 today. Can you help us meet this goal? Please prayerfully consider how you can generously support the mission of Washington Mennonite.  If you have questions, see Mary Lou Farmer, Treasurer.  Thank you for your generous gifts!

Help fill school kits for MCC:  It is great to see school kits piling up in the church foyer and you can still purchase items for kits.  We will collect them until August 28.  If you want to make kits and there are no bags, just place items on the table and we will find bags for them. Thanks for supporting this project for MCC.

WMC will be in charge of Saturday Kitchen at the United Presbyterian Church on Saturday September 10th.  Sign-up sheets for donating food items including instructions are in the foyer.  We also have sign-up sheets in

the foyer for persons to sign for the shift and job they would like to help with.  We always have a good time working together providing a meal for the guests that come to Saturday Kitchen.  If you haven’t helped with Saturday Kitchen yet, please join us this time.  You will be glad you did.

The first Central Plains Bible Study Webinar is coming soon!  Join us at 7:30pm on Monday, Sept 12 here at WMC, for Between Joints and Marrow: An Introduction to the Art of Biblical Interpretation.  These webinars, which grow out of our Covenant of Spiritual Practices, are especially for Sunday School teachers and others who lead Bible studies, but anyone is welcome.  RSVP on the Bible Study Webinars page at www.centralplainsmc.org by Thursday, Sept 8.

Crooked Creek Christian Camp

TODAY is Sing & S’mores at 5:00pm at Sunset Shelter. This year we will also celebrate with a dedication for the Welcome Center currently under construction followed by deluxe s’mores.  We hope you will plan to attend!

Senior Day is Thursday, October 6th.  Registration starts at 9am and activities completing by 3pm.  Our featured entertainer and storyteller will be Maynard Knepp of Goessel, Kansas.  Maynard will present several story lines including “Jonas: The life and times of an Amishman” and “Slickfester Dude, the life of being a farm cat.”  You won’t want to miss this opportunity!  Register your attendance online at www.crookedcreekcamp.org or by calling the camp office.

Central Plains Conference

Don’t miss this year’s Women’s Retreat at Swan Lake Christian Camp on Sept 17 &18.  Debra Worth will be our featured speaker, sharing insights from her work with New Americans in Sioux Falls.  Deb will also emcee a Saturday evening coffeehouse in the new retreat center overlooking the lake.  Come to relax and enjoy – and bring a song, story, or talent to share!  Cost for the entire weekend – which includes special interest sessions, delicious meals and snacks, group worship and communion, and lodging – is $80.  Shopping at the Ten Thousand Villages and Faith & Life Bookstore displays is extra!  Register by next Sunday, Sept 4, by emailing or calling Elisabeth Harder Schrock (eharderschrock(at)gmail.com or 507.427.2771).

Central Plains Mennonite Conference Prayer Request: Thank god for the good news Tim Detweiler got recently: scans detected no active cancer.  He will have scans again in three months.

▪ Mennonite Mission Network (MMN) Prayer Request:  The Argentina Mennonite Church, a MMN partner, operates Life School and Little Seeds Preschool in Neuquen.  Pray for Andrea Pineda, the new director of the high school, and others who contribute to the school administration, as they seek to improve the financial status of their institutions.
