Fall Worship Series (Sept 13 – Nov 22)
Our worship services this fall will focus on stories from the Bible about people who were “chosen” or “called.”  The Old and New Testament have many examples of God calling an individual to a very particular task – David, Solomon, Abraham, Moses, Gideon, the Apostles, among many others.  There’s no reason to suppose that God no longer calls people in the 21st Century or invites particular people to take on particular tasks.  Many people feel called to a very particular people to take on particular tasks.  Many people feel called to a very particular task and there is no reason to doubt the reality of what they are feeling.
On Sunday, September 6th, each person attending Washington Mennonite Church will be asked to identify one thing they feel called to do.  This can be a passion of yours, a career choice, a spiritual gift, a talent, etc.  You will write your name as well as your “calling” on a paper, which will be included in a display board during our fall series to represent the variety of areas that we are called to serve.  Please come prepared to participate in this activity next Sunday.

Crooked Creek Christian Camp

IMS parents are invited to join the school’s faculty and administration at the first Parent-Teacher Organization meeting of the year on Monday, Aug 31, at 7pm in Celebration Hall.  Beginning of the year policies and information will be distributed, as well as they chance to meet fall coaches and teaching personnel.  Please plan to attend.

Central Plains Conference

It is time to begin planning Youth Escape 2016, the weekend retreat for Central Plains youth next July 15-17.  I am looking for sponsors, pastors, youth and young adults who would like to be on the planning committee.  The committee will need folks from various parts of our conference who have experience planning worship, recreation activities or break-outs.  The purpose of Youth Escape is to connect youth to Jesus, the church and each other.  If you are interested, email me, Shana Peachey Boshart, at shanaboshart at gmail.com by September 8th.

The Sower Prayer Request:  Today Josh Lundberg begins as associate pastor at Kalona Mennonite Church.  Pray that God will bless Josh, Pastor Scott Swartzendruber and the congregation with a fruitful ministry together.

Mennonite Agencies

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Tomorrow, MMN’s DOOR Dwell participants will arrive in the cities they will call home for the coming year.  Pray for them as they reflect on the challenges they will encounter and as they celebrate life in community.

Area Announcements

We invite you to experience the Grillmasters of Kalona Mennonite Church at a bold, benevolent barbeque on Sunday noon, September 13, to benefit the KMC International Student Aid Fund.  Our current project is Rudi Mucaj from Albania.  Rudi attended IMS as an exchange student and is currently attending Goshen College.  (Read more about his IMS experience on the IMS website).  The KMC Grillmasters will be grilling chicken breasts, hamburgers and hot dogs.  Other menu items include baked beans, coleslaw, chips and a sundae bar.  Hope to see you there!

Crowded Closet is seeking volunteer cashiers.  The shifts are 9:30-1:00, 1:00-5:00, or full day.  Our cash register system is easy to use and the sense of community is always enjoyable.  Your service to MCC would be greatly appreciated.  Please contact Bailey Schrock at Crowded Closet at 319.337.5924 or email at crowdedcloset.volunteer at gmail.com
