Save and wash your milk jugs for cider making on a yet to be decided upon date!

The church council met last week and after much thoughtful discussion has decided to proceed with the kitchen remodel project, asking the kitchen remodeling committee to pare down the plans to fit with our existing budget of $45,925, which is still $7,000 short of our optimum goal. The council agrees that we will not borrow money or use reserve funds for the project, but as the project continues, there will still be opportunities to donate time and resources. Renovation will begin this fall with the goal of finishing by Thanksgiving. Council asks that you honor your pledges to this project before August 1, 2016. Thank you for your support of this upgrade to our church facilities.

It’s school kit time!  Take a bag (or two or three) from the table in the hall.  A list of items is included in each bag.  More bags will be coming later.  Return them by Aug 31, 2015.  Thank for your generosity!

Crooked Creek Christian Camp

Sing and Smores, our annual event of enjoying the outdoors and singing is Sunday, August 30, at 6pm.  We are privileged to have Edie Nebel as our music leader.  We welcome all ages to attend at Sunset Shelter!

IMS’ Compassion Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Friday, Aug 28th, from 6:30-10:30 am in the Celebration Hall lobby.  Please give – your donation helps 3 people!  Also if enough people donate, the Mississippi Valley Blood Center will provide money towards a charity of our choice.  Finally, all presenting donors will be entered in a drawing for a 2015 navy blue Jeep Patriot.  To sign up, contact Gloria Yoder at 319.656.2073 or gyoder at iowamennonite.org.

IMS will begin classes on Monday, August 24th.  Please pray for the students, faculty, staff and administration as they work together in teaching and learning in a Christ-centered atmosphere.

Central Plains Conference

It is time to begin planning Youth Escape 2016, the weekend retreat for Central Plains youth next July 15-17.  I am looking for sponsors, pastors, youth and young adults who would like to be on the planning committee.  The committee will need folks from various parts of our conference who have experience planning worship, recreation activities or break-outs.  The purpose of Youth Escape is to connect youth to Jesus, the church and each other.  If you are interested, email me, Shana Peachey Boshart, at shanaboshart at gmail.com by September 8th.

David Boshart, executive conference minister for CPMC, is on sabbatical until October 15.  Shana Peachey Boshart is the acting executive conference minister during this time.  You may contact her at 319.936.5905 or email shanaboshart at centralplainsmc.org.

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for the students, teachers and staff at Freeman Academy and Iowa Mennonite School as they prepare to return to school for the 2015-2016 school year.
