Our Church

Offering for 8/3/2014:  $3,102 (regular); $200 (HACAP)

***To meet our financial obligations for the church year we need approximately $16,000 during the month of August.  Keep this in mind as you prepare your offering.***

All are invited today following church (No Sunday School) to a potluck picnic lunch at the new shelter by the pond at Crooked Creek!  After lunch, we still plan on having a swimming party at the camp pool. 

Keep bring school kit supplies!  The supplies will still be used even though there are no bags left.

Bike to Church Sunday:  Start lining up your sponsors for  Bike to Church Sunday sometime soon.  We’ll meet in Central Park for juice and donuts and then actually bike to the church for the Sunday morning service.  Get people to sponsor you at $1 or $5 per block for the $16 block trip to benefit MCC.

Annual Reports need to be turned in to Andrea by August 31st.  They can be emailed to wash.mennonite at juno.com or left on the Andrea’s desk.  Thanks!

Iowa Mennonite School

IMS opens the 2014-15 school year this week, with faculty and staff beginning Monday the 11th, and students arriving Wednesday the 13th.  Please keep the school in your thoughts and prayers during this time of new beginnings and anticipation of a positive year!


Central Plains Conference

Women’s Retreat at Swan Lake Christian Camp is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sep 20th and 21st.  Conference pastor Shana Peachey Boshart is speaking on the topic “Growing in God – What’s Working for You?”  Presentation sessions will focus on children, young women/mothers and empty nest/beyond.  There will be time on Saturday afternoon to enjoy activity sessions and a variety of music/singing throughout the weekend.  Pre-registration is requested and due by September 15th by contacting Edie Tschetter at letschetter at gwtc.net; home: 605.925.7009 or cell: 605.660.2714; 28020 US Highway 81, Freeman, SD 57029.  Please check out the poster sent to your local church for details on cost, lodging, etc.

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for all the Sunday School teachers in our conference getting ready for a new year, especially those getting acquainted with the new curriculum, Shine.  Many teachers will receive an introduction to Shine this month.


Mennonite Agencies

MC USA Announcement:  “Black Mennonite Women Rock” Retreat – Sept 12-14, 2014 at Camp Friedenswald, Cassopolis, MI, hosted by Central District Conference.  Women of all races and faith expressions are invited to be part of a weekend of upbeat worship, classic camp activities and exciting discussions of faith, race and identity--celebrating Anabaptist-Mennonite faith through an African-American cultural style.  Register now at www.friedenswald.org or 269.476.9744.  Financial aid is available, and women age 25 and under are invited to come at no cost.


Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Alisha and Josh Garber, serving with MMN, foster community life in the residence halls at LCC International University in Lithuania.  Pray for them as they build relationships with the 53 Russian students and 69 Ukranian students on campus, helping them listen to each other and develop conflict resolution skills.

Prayers for faith and learning:  Pray for Hesston College students arriving on campus for a week of practices, team community building, orientation and a jump start on classes.  May their interactions be blessed as they build friendships with one another.


Area Events

The Calvarymen will give the message through music at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church on Suday, August 10th¸at 10:30am.  A free-will offering will be taken.  The Calvarymen is a Southern Gospel singing group from Hartville, Missouri.  For more information go to www.thecalvarymen.com.
