Our Church

Happy Birthday to:  Jon Widmer (4/14)

Offering for 4/7/2013: $2056.25 (regular),
$50.00 (MYF Fundraiser)

We are still in need of help in the kitchen for the Dinner Theatre.  Please check the sign-up sheet in the foyer for shifts that are still available.  We can use both men and women in the kitchen.

“I have been overwhelmed by your response to help.  Some of you have blocked out the entire week to help wherever needed.  Others have responded with “I will work wherever I am needed.”  Thank you.  As we work together we will have a great week whether it is on stage, behind the scenes, parking cars, serving food to the guests, working in the kitchen preparing food, or doing the dishes.  Thank you and blessings to each of you.”  - Phyllis Litwiller

Our group subscription plan to The Mennonite is renewing.  The Mennonite, magazine for Mennonite Church USA, seeks to fulfill its mission of helping readers glorify God, grow in faith and become agents of healing and hope in the world through articles that challenge and inspire, news that connects readers to the larger Mennonite community and much more.  If you are interested in joining our group plan, please contact Andrea by May 5th.

Iowa Mennonite School

The IMS Operating Board will be hiring an interim principal for the 2013-2014 school year.  A person with K-12 administration credentials is preferred.  A search committee is being formed to fill the principal position by July of 2014.

Prayers for IMS takes place each Wednesday in the IMS conference room, at 7:30am for 20 minutes; all are welcome to attend.  If you wish to receive a prayer guide from each session via email, please contact the school.

The drama department will present “Jack and the Beanstalk” and other plays, directed by Mary Forney, on April 27 & 28 (7pm and 2:30pm respectively).  Admission is by donation.

Come celebrate IMS!  Do you know all about IMS?  There are new things happening on campus and we want to share them with you.  Please help us celebrate all that is IMS on Sunday, May 5 from 12-3 pm at a come-and-go open house.  Bring your friends and neighbors with you to introduce them to IMS.  Enjoy a free lunch and tours of campus.  You will learn how we are using the US Cellular contest funds we won in the fall, see the solar energy project, see what happened on Interterm, meet our faculty & staff, and listen to some music.  Come one, come all for an afternoon of fun, with activities for children and information for all.  See you then!!

Crooked Creek Christian Camp

Don’t forget to register for the 5K Fun Run/Walk at CCCC on Saturday, May 4 at 8am.  It’s only a few weeks away!  Help us raise funds so that all kids can come to camp.  Register online at www.crookedcreekcamp.org or call at 319.653.3611.  Hope to see you there!

 Mennonite Agencies

We are collecting books to sell at the MCC sale.  Books that sell well are children’s books, ‘bonnet’ books, recently published books, mysteries, and newer appearing books.  Your MCC sale representative will put out a collection box for your donations or books can be brought directly to the Book Booth in the south end of Building B on Friday of the sale.  Thanks for your contributions.

Donations of new and gently used items are needed for the MCC Sale Children’s Auction.  Suggested items are toys, books, games, sports equipment, etc.  Items can be auctioned individually or put together into themed baskets such as family game night, family movie night, arts & crafts, sports, reading, etc.  Donation boxes are located in each church.  Please feel free to contact Brigette Ingersoll at 319.338.8811 with any questions.

The MCC Relief Sale is accepting donations of hogs and cattle.  The meat will be used for the meals and packaged and sold in the Farmer’s Market.  Donations to cover the cost of proce3ssing would also be greatly appreciated.  Contact Bryan Amstutz at 614.675.3423 or Roy Beache at 319.430.9086 if you can support the sale in this way.

Are you a woodworker, crafter, carpenter, or artist?  The auction committee is accepting donations of handcrafted items.  If interested contact Lynn Yoder at 319.325.3670 or ey5840 at netins.net.

MCC Sale Meals in Homes:  Now is time to get out the pots and pans, fire up the grill and join those who are providing meals for sale at the annual MCC Sale.  This year we are looking for 35 volunteers to sign up.  Be creative with how you describe your meal, making it intriguing enough that everyone will want to place a bid!  Throw in a freezer of homemade ice cream or a delicious dessert and it will tempt the most delicate taste buds.  To list your meal for proper advertising, contact Marcia Miller at 319.656.3242, or 319.430.3376, or email Marcia at kctc.net

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for the pastors, chaplains and spouses gathered for their annual retreat today through Tuesday in Schuyler, Nebraska.  Thank God for the dedication and energy of our conference pastors.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:   Good News Theological College and Seminary in Ghana, a MMN partner, helps church leaders deepen their biblical understanding.  Pray for improvements in the institution’s computer lab to facilitate learning.  They need more computers, surge protectors, power backups, and two air conditioners.

Prayers for Faith and Learning:  Thank God for the musical talents of the students who have been participating in the Mennonite Schools Council Choir Festival held at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School this year and for safe travel home after the concert today.

Washington Area

You are invited to a French Toast Breakfast on Saturday, April 20th, to benefit the non-profit group Empowering Haiti from 6:30am-10:30am at Kalona Mennonite Church.  Come join us as we raise money to install the new septic field necessary to begin construction on a permanent medical clinic in a very under-served area close to the coast of Northern Haiti.  The menu will include French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, and homemade rolls.  There will be a free will donation and carryouts are available.  Call Trent and Tammy Yoder with questions at 319.656.3743.

Mennonite Historical Society:  The spring meeting of the Mennonite Historical Society will be held at Kalona Mennonite Church on April 29th at 7pm.  The program will include watching excerpts from the program commemorating the sesquicentennial of Mennonites coming to southeast Iowa.  The sesquicentennial celebration was held in 1996 and included music from the Ausbund and monologues about different aspects of early Mennonite life in Iowa.  Come to the meeting to learn more about our early history here.
