Our Church

Grant and Edie are at Zion Mennonite Church in Donnellson this morning as part of Zion’s Mission Sunday.

IMS won $50,000 in the “Calling All Communities” contest sponsored by US Cellular!  Thanks to all of the WMC supporters!  The money will be used to replace old computers and also for student aid.

The Service and Outreach Committee would appreciate your help singing at the nursing homes this afternoon.  Meet at the McCreedy Home at 1:45pm.

Out church is responsible for the Saturday Kitchen on Nov the 10th.  Please sign up today for duties and times.  Contact Cindy Widmer for more information.  Our next serving date will be  Jan 5th.

There will be a potluck and bridal shower for Caleb & Heidi Detweiler in the fellowship hall following church on Sunday, Nov 25th.

The monthly sewing is postponed ‘til Nov 28th.


Iowa Mennonite School

IMS’s National Honor Society is sponsoring a blood drive through the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, on Monday, Nov 5th.  Donation time is from 7:30-11:30am; walk-ins are certainly welcome, but you can make an appointment by calling the school at 656-2073 or 683-2586.
All are invited to IMS to hear an update on the Maguire Report on Thursday, Nov 15th.  You may recall a year or two ago when this particular consultant spent time on the IMS campus in relation to the school’s enrollment issues.  IMS’ Operating Board will provide an update/report from the study, and there will be time for feedback and questions; the evening will begin at 7 pm.

The Compassion Club is sponsoring and hosting a Talent Show on Sunday, Nov 18th, from 4-4 pm in Celebration Hall.

The Music Boosters of IMS are once again organizing a fund-raiser at the Pizza Ranch at the Iowa City Sycamore Mall location on Monday, Nov 19th.  Come for an evening of pizza and fellowship, from 5-8 pm.  20% of the evening’s proceeds will benefit the Booster Club’s support of the school’s music program.


Crooked Creek Christian Camp

Register now for “Come to the Table and Create.”  Brochures were in church mailboxes last Sunday.  Call Angela at 319.653.3611 with questions.

The CCCC Annual Meeting will be held Monday, Nov 12th at thecamp’s Retreat Lodge.  A soup supper will be served from 6:15-6:45 with the business meeting starting at 7 pm.  Come to learn more of what happens at camp throughout the year.  Call Mary Lou for more information at 319.653.3611.


Mennonite Agencies

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for the development of the Quito Mennonite Church, including their leadership and members.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Amanda Falla of MMN ministers with her husband, Gamaliel, in Colombia.  Last week, Amanda received a bone marrow transplant in Chicago.  She may also need a kidney transplant.  Pray that God would restore health to Amanda’s body and that Amanda will continue to use every circumstance to share her faith in God’s love for all people.


Washington Area

There will be a Caring for the Heart conference at Upper Deer Creek Church, November 4-8.  This is for anyone wanting to better understand how to resolve personal and marital difficulties.   For more information, you may contact Elmer Miller at 319.656.3843.

Get your feather or foam pillows cleaned, sanitized, deodorized & NEW TICKING on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 8:30am – 4:00pm at Kalona Mennonite Church (902 6th St).  Sponsored by the Kalona Mennonite WMSC.

Sugar Creek will host Election Night Communion at 7pm, Tuesday, Nov 6th.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bethel will be hosting Seth Wenger and a group of singers on Sunday, November 11th to present during Special Music, hymns from the "Sacred Harp," hymnal. The group will be staying in the afternoon to have a potluck lunch and a few hours of group singing. Anyone who is interested in the music, and would like to participate in an afternoon sing, is welcome and encouraged to come and join. The Washington AM Optimist Club is sponsoring a soup supper on Monday, Nov 12th at the Hamakua Place Youth Center.  A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Center. 

Selah, a women’s sextet, will be singing at Bethel Mennonite Church on Sunday, Nov 18th at 7 pm.

Cheese Balls are back!  After a year off, Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church is once again selling homemade cheese balls as a fundraiser for missions.  The flavors available are ham, veggie, pineapple and new this year, pesto!  Prices for the 16 oz cheese balls are $9.50 or 3/$27.00.  Please call the church at 656-2076 or email ldc at kctc.net by December 1 to place your order.  They will be available to pick up at the church on Dec 15 from 10 am to noon.
