Francis Litwiller has agreed to a second term as elder. We are asking the congregation to affirm Francis this morning.

Come enjoy some great music in Celebration Hall this afternoon (3:00 PM), as the IMS music department presents its Fall Music Concert. Under the direction of Karenza Yoder, there will be vocal and instrumental music, as well as small ensembles. Your support by way of a donation will be appreciated, and will benefit the school’s music program.

On October 24 we will be honoring our newlywed couples, Jordan and Kate Garrett, Braedan and Miriam Garrett, Rachel and Heath Delzell, and Trent and Rebekah Widmer with a potluck shower. We will be purchasing gift cards for them to spend at WalMart. Please give your donations to Mary Lou Farmer, Kaylene Miller or Myron Graber and mark the date on your calendars!!

The Parkview Benefit Breakfast and Auction will be held on Saturday, October 30 at the WACO gym in Wayland. Breakfast will be served from 8 – 10 AM, the auction will begin at 9:30 AM, and a soup luncheon will begin at 11:30 AM. There will also be a carved pumpkin contest for the kids. Noel and Cheryl Smith and son Chris have just been granted United States citizenship. Their son, Byron, became a citizen earlier in the year before his 21st birthday. Their address is: 11016 Maelin Dr., Austin, TX 78739 and their e-mail address is: cheryl.smithatkuceraco.com. Cheryl was an exchange student of Roger and Joannne’s back in 1979-80 from South Africa. She and her family emigrated to the USA and lived with Roger and Joanne seven months and attended WMC while looking for a location to live and find work.

Crooked Creek Christian Camp invites everyone aged 16 and up to join us for Climbing Club! We meet today, October 10 from 5 – 7 PM in the Activity Center. Cost is only $10 per person. Space is limited, so call the camp office (653.3611) and leave a message soon. (All participants must sign a waiver; those under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign on their behalf.)

An event for prospective IMS students is an “Ice Cream Social” at the school on October 12 following the final home volleyball match of the season. This event is for students in grades 6-8. Ken Davis will be appearing at Celebration Hall at IMS, Sunday, October 24th at 6:00 PM. Ken Davis is a noted motivational speaker who has delivered his message of laughter and hope in hundreds of churches and conferences across America. Plan to attend the Mennonite Historical Society fall meeting at Kalona Mennonite Church on October 25th at 7:00 PM. The program will be about the Daniel P. Guengerich family and will feature the diary kept by Daniel on his voyage to America in 1833. Several descendants will also be speaking about the family. Everyone is welcome.

Kalona Mennonite WMSC is sponsoring a pillow cleaning event at their church on Tuesday, November 2 from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Bring your feather or foam pillows to be cleaned, sanitized, deodorized and to get new ticking.

Ventriloquist and comedian Ryan & Friends will be performing in Iowa Mennonite School’s Celebration Hall on Sunday, November 14, at 2 PM. Ryan performs across the United States and Canada with his hilarious cast that includes Harold and Irene, an elderly couple, Ardy the Skunk, and Jeffery. Clean comedy for all ages! Tickets will go on sale October 1 by calling the school at 656.2073. Proceeds will benefit the 2010-11 IMS Touring Choir as they prepare to attend the annual Choir Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico in April.

Mennonite Women USA is offering a Sister Care Seminar November 5 and 6, 2010, at East Union Mennonite Church, Kalona, Iowa. Sister Care Seminar offers training for effective lay caring in the congregation. The seminar will be led by Rhoda Keener and Ruth Lapp Guengerich. The cost is $35 and includes lunch. IMS Concert Choir members for hire!! Members of the IMS Concert Choir are available to work for community members this fall, raising funds for their choir trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico in April 2011. Much like the Work Days concept of the past, please contact the school office to hire one or more students for a day, an evening, a few hours…please note that Friday, October 29 is a ‘no school’ day, as well as the Friday after Thanksgiving—plus weekends, of course. Funds will go directly into the account of the specific student(s) hired. Please call 656.2073 for more information.
