▪ Join us for worship on Zoom at 10
a.m. (you will receive an invitation to the meeting by email, just
click and join. Any questions? Contact Roger Farmer.
▪ Saturday Kitchen meals have
been suspended
for the time being due to the virus restrictions.
▪ Pam Gerig Unruh’s time as our
interim pastor will be over at the end of April. We wanted to celebrate her
time with us on the last Sunday of April. However, due to current circumstances,
that celebration will be held at a later date. We will keep you informed. Our new pastor, Nick Stoddard, will finish
his time in South Dakota on May 10 and will move to Iowa at
the end of May. His first Sunday
with us will be June 7. Please continue to pray for the church during this
time of transition. If you have questions, please contact one of the elders.
The elders
▪ Even though we are unable to meet as a congregation right
now, expenses of the church continue.
Please send your donations directly to Dick
See, 705 Perdock Court, Washington, IA. Thanks for your
support.
Crooked Creek Christian Camp
▪ If you're looking for great places to practice
social distancing, we have
plenty of trails and wooded space to walk and a prayer labyrinth to
enjoy.
▪ Applications are
being taken for the position of Program Director at Crooked Creek
Christian Camp. The Program Director is responsible for all camp programming,
which includes summer camp, CC Wild, and other programs throughout the year, recruiting and supervising
summer staff, and marketing. Submit application, cover letter, and resume
to Heather Bender heather@crooked creekcamp.org
Visit www.crookedcreekcamp.org for more
information.
Hillcrest Academy
▪ Back on March 25
Hillcrest Academy implemented a Continuous Learning program for our students to
continue being engaged in home-based learning. We have also created a
place on our website and social media channels where our
students, faculty/staff, and alumni & friends can use
the hashtag #hillcrestunited and share about how they are
staying connected during this unprecedented time. People are taking
notice. Be sure and tune in to KCRG Channel 9 on Monday, April 20 at 10
PM to hear the news story they are doing about our school and our online
learning program.
Central Plains Conference
▪ We have made the difficult decision to cancel
our in-person Annual Meeting for Central Plains Mennonite Conference this year. Given the continuing uncertainty
around COVID-19, we simply do not believe it is wise for us to plan an
in-person gathering. Alternative arrangements are in the works and we
currently plan to have a condensed delegate session via Zoom on June 20 so we can worship and
engage in the work of the conference virtually. Watch for more details as we
plan for the virtual annual meeting and conference-wide worship for June 20-21.
▪ Central Plains Prayer Request: Pray for the work of the Outreach and Service Committee of Central
Plains Mennonite Conference. We ask for wisdom and courage as they lead by
example and encouragement into new ways of thinking about and doing God's
just work in our ever-changing world.
▪ Mennonite
Mission Network Prayer Request: Many
Mennonite Mission Network partners live in areas where most public activity has
stopped due to the outbreak of the COVID-19. JCS International in Mongolia asks
for prayer for all people throughout the region, and that Christians would have
a strong testimony of love and comfort during this time of intense fear.
▪ MC USA Announcement:
#Bringthepeace Read the inspiring story of how Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton,
Pennsylvania, discovered a need in its own “backyard” – and grew it into a
community ministry that provides food for more than 200 students and
has inspired a similar program in a neighboring school district.
Area Announcements
▪ From
the Iowa Mennonite Historical Society: Due to health concerns related to Covid 19 the
Mennonite Museum at the Kalona Historical Village is delaying our 2020 opening until May 1, 2020. Our Spring meeting to hear the Vander Werf
immigration story of moving from the Netherlands to Manson, Iowa in World War 2
has been postponed until this Fall.
