Washington Mennonite
▪ Thank you for your
ongoing prayers and support during my recent hospitalization with a leaky
mitral valve and minor stroke. I am doing well. Thank you for your
cards, visits and the basket of goodies sent during my hospital stay.
Your ongoing prayers are appreciated as I wait with anticipation for my
upcoming surgery to repair the mitral valve, probably sometime in early

▪ Saturday Kitchen will be
hosted by Washington Mennonite Church on Saturday October 6th,
2019 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. Thank you to
each of you that have signed up to help either by working or donating
food. Check the schedule in the church foyer to make sure what you have
signed up to work or donate food items and the time you are to arrive. We
are always so blessed as we work together and interact with the guests.

Hillcrest Academy
▪ Fall Music Concert | The
concert will be held on Sun, Oct 13 at 3:00 pm under the direction of
Mike Wagner. The groups performing will be the Chorale, Concert Choir, and
Symphonic Band. In addition, the Intro to Music class will perform an original
composition they created.
▪ Beauty and the Beast | The musical will be presented Sat, Nov 9 at 7:00 pm and Sun, Nov 10 at 3:00 pm. Reserved tickets are Adults/$9, Students/$5 and can be purchased by calling the school office (656-2073). The reserved seating charts can be seen here: tinyurl.com/HillcrestDra

▪ Everence to hold October Medicare
workshop in Kalona - Everence
will host its popular workshop, Make Medicare an easy step, on Monday, Oct.
14, at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about the various Medicare plans and
what they cover, plans that supplement Medicare, and enrollment details and
deadlines. The workshop will be presented by Everence staff at Kalona Public
Library, Velma Skola Room, 510 C Ave. The workshop is free, but space is limited!

Mission Network Prayer Request: Kate Widmer is preparing for ministry in France through Mennonite
Mission Network. Pray that Kate will be guided by the Holy Spirit in language
learning and building relationships as she assists at Paris Mennonite Center
and serves alongside La Prairie Mennonite Church in community outreach programs
in Montbéliard (Alsace region).

Area Announcements
▪ “What do we learn from our past,” will be the theme of
the fall Mennonite Historical Society meeting. The Fall Meeting and annual
membership renewal for MHS begins with a soup supper. We are raising
funds to help us tell the story of our Amish-Mennonite history in the Kalona
community. Our soup supper will be supported by your free will offerings. The
meeting is November 11, 2019 at Kalona Mennonite Church. Serving
will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Evening program will begin at 7:00 where we
will see a film covering John Ruth’s 45 years of taking tours to Europe to
connect folks to our Anabaptist faith stories.

MOPS Haystack Fundraiser Meal: Sunday, October 13th,
serving from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Upper Deer Creek Church. Free will
donation.
