Mennonite
▪ Offering for 8/18/19 - Regular offering: $1,100.08
▪ Thank you for your generous gifts for relief the last few weeks. Seven Immigrant Detainee Kits and 39
School kits were delivered to Crowded Closet this week. They are on their way
to MCC offices and around the world! Someone in the US or another country will
appreciate what you have given. Thank you.
▪ TURNING SNACKS INTO HYMNALS – Today after church you can have
some of Martha Graber’s fantastic cinnamon rolls with donations going toward
the new hymnals. The sooner we raise the necessary funds, the better our
chance of getting the 10% discount which will apply to the first 10,000 hymnals
sold in the U.S.A. and Canada churches. Believe us when we say that
other churches are also fundraising with this in mind, so there is some
urgency. Homemade cinnamon rolls...a possible 10% discount! What's
not to like? If anyone wants to buy hymnals with a bookplate in the cover designating
a memorial or honoring a relative or friend, please let Susan See or Amy Widmer
know. We can do that!
▪ Picnic at the Wellman Park on
Sept 1st. There will be no Sunday School to give
everyone time to get up there by 11:30am.
Dick Miller will be joining us!
▪ Frivolity strikes again! Save the date, we're pressing cider on
Saturday, Sept 7th at the
camp starting around 5pm. Please bring apples if you have them, clean
jugs and a finger-food potluck item to share for afterwards. Hotdogs, buns and
fire will be provided. Tell your friends.
▪ Saturday Kitchen was hosted by Washington Mennonite Saturday August 17 at noon. We served 106 plates and
made 55 carry outs. That is our highest number that we have served.
There were several firsts. We served watermelon for dessert instead of
cookie bars and Chad Litwiller helped us prepare and serve the meal for the first
time. We are always blessed as we work together. One of the guests
came up to the counter just when the meal was about to be served and said “You
are the Mennonites aren’t you” We replied “Yes” and wondered how she knew
that. Her answer was that she loves the menu and especially the Amish
dinner rolls and looks forward to having us come. Reminded me that it is
important to serve where we are planted even if the job seems
insignificant. Blessings come in places I least expect. Next
Saturday Kitchen is October 12th. Phyllis
Litwiller and Gloria Widmer
