Financial Report: The first month of our new fiscal year has just ended. Giving was a bit down and our balance has been reduced from about $7000 to about $5400. SundaySucIowa MCC Relief Sale

The Mennonite Historical Museum in Kalona is in search of items from the past 40 years of Iowa Mennonite Relief Sales to be donated and displayed at the museum. Belt buckles, photos, mugs, aprons, etc. If you have something to donate, please include dates and names, if applicable. Questions and delivery of items can be directed to Amanda Bleichty or Mary Lou Farmer at the museum. 

Come to Crooked Creek Christian Camp in Washington, Iowa on Sunday, October 28 at 4pm to Sing for Relief!  Enjoy music, wood-fired flatbreads, a campfire and other fall

activities as we kick off festivities for the 40th anniversary year of the Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale! All donations will go towards the expenses for the 2019 Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale. 

SundaySucIowa Mennonite School

October 12-13 | Join us on campus for Homecoming and Alumni Family Weekend! Friday night at 5:30PM come out to Hillcrest Union, along with members of the 1998 State Final Four volleyball team, to watch or participate in the alumni volleyball game followed by the alumni soccer game on the soccer field at 7:00PM. Saturday morning run or walk in the Joetown Classic 5K (registration begins at 8:30AM, kids race starts at 9:30AM, followed by the 5K at 10:00AM). Then be sure and stick around for the IMS Tailgate featuring music by The Old Man Band, concessions by the IMS PTO, Spikeball, and a super-fun 36' long inflatable. Later that evening return to Hillcrest Union for the annual Pork Supper hosted by the Junior Class. Tickets can be purchased from a junior student or at the door. The meal will be served from 4:30-7:00PM and will be followed by a Community Hymn Sing in Celebration Hall.

October 14 | Come hear the Intro to Music students, Choral & Concert Choirs, and the Symphonic Band at our Fall Music Concert starting at 3:00PM in Celebration Hall. Also after the concert 6th-8th graders, transfer students and their families are invited to our Harvest Party hosted by the IMS FFA. Games, activities, and food will be available. Join us for the concert and stay for the fun with our FFA!

Fall Drama | Little Women directed by Michael Swartzendruber will be performed in Celebration Hall on November 3 at 7:00PM and on November 4 at 3:00PM. Call the office (319-656-2073) to reserve your tickets!

▪ Central Plains Mennonite Conference Prayer Request:  Pray for conference leaders of Mennonite Church USA who will gather Oct. 11-13 in Chicago for the Constituency Leaders Council.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Tomorrow is Indigenous Peoples Day. Mennonite Mission Network requests prayer for the descendants of White settlers to understand their complicity in the oppression of the original inhabitants of this land. Pray also for mission workers who support marginalized people groups in reclaiming their land, their language, and their dignity.

Area Announcements

▪ Parenting Workshop : Oct 7 from 4-6pm at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.  Brenda Yoder from northern Indiana will join us in a workshop based on her
book "Fledge: Launching Your Kids Without Losing Your Mind".

Wellman Mennonite Church will host a fund raiser on Sunday Oct. 14th. The fund raiser is for IMS tuition for the Jimenez family. The Jimenez family will be providing the meal. We will be serving from 11:45 to 1:30. Free will donation.

You are invited to First Mennonite Church of Iowa City, Wednesday, October 17, 7pm to worship with Parablesa student worship ensemble from Goshen College who will share music, original dramas and personal stories. A free will offering will be taken.  

▪ Kalona MOPS Haystacks Fundraiser – Oct 21, 2018 from 11:30-1:30pm at Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church.  For more information, see the bulletin board in the foyer.

▪ Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church presents “4 Chair Discipling” on October 27, 2018 from 8:30am-4:30pm.  Anyone who wants to be challenged to be and make disciples should attend!  Cost is $25 per person.  See the poster in the foyer for more details.
