Iowa Mennonite School

IMS’s Fall Music Concert will be held today at 3:00pm.  The concert will include performances by the choirs, symphonic band, and smaller ensembles, all under the direction of Josh Tyson.  Following the concert, all 6th-8th grade students are invited to enjoy a hayride and refreshments.

Peace Pies & Prophets is come to the area! The popular performance by Ted Swartz of Ted & Co fame will make an appearance at IMS on Saturday, Oct 12.  It’s the same evening as the annual Junior Class Pork Supper, so come and enjoy dinner and a show. Meal tickets are available from any IMS junior (or by calling the office), and there is no admission charge for the show in Celebration Hall…although there will be a free-will offering along with a pie auction as a part of the show.  Proceeds from the show will benefit both Christian Peacemaker Teams and IMS; your support will be much appreciated! Everence is helping sponsor the event, and the local JPOG group is also lending a hand in securing pies and volunteers. It promises to be a fun evening, which

begins with the meal (4-7 pm); live music at 6:30; and the show at 7:30. Please contact Larry Swartzendruber at IMS for more information.

Please consider hiring one or more IMS students on October 18 for the Fall Work Day…and in the process support the school’s Student Aid Fund.  Students are available to do yard work, cleaning or any jobs, with all wages turned in to the school in support of financial assistance.  Please call Mary Lou Gingerich at the school for more information.

Central Plains Conference

Quito Mennonite Church is seeking applicants for a full time pastor.  If you are interested contact Don Kempf at donaldkempf at windstream.net or 402.759.1285.

“We are people of God’s peace.”  The October issue of Scattered Seeds shares what Central Plains conference is doing to equip congregations to handle conflict in a way that gives witness to the reign of God.  Read about one congregation’s journey toward reconciliation, hear what motivates a mediator, learn about the new Conflict Management Support Team, and see what events are coming to equip congregations.

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for Salem Mennonite Church, Freeman, South Dakota, as they welcome Bob Engbrecht today as pastor for senior ministries.

Mennonite Agencies

An information meeting on advance care planning will be held on Tuesday, Oct 8, at 7pm in the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall.  Kent Blossom and Deb Roth will discuss different levels of care and procedures normally spelled out in living wills and durable power of attorneys, etc.  This meeting is for everyone but especially retirement age individuals and children with elderly parents.

Local Amish leaders will be sharing about Amish history and current local Amish practices at the Fall Meeting of the Iowa Mennonite Historical Society on Oct 14 at Kalona Mennonite Church at 7:00 pm.  All are invited to come learn more about the history and practices of our close neighbors and fellow Anabaptists.  Refreshments will follow.

Mennonite women, young and old, are invited to the annual Fall Mennonite Women’s meeting where we will celebrate generations of strong Iowa Mennonite women.  From baking pies to making soap to piecing quilts for beauty and for warmth, wise Iowa women have been doing sacred work for generations.  Join us at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 2 at Kalona Mennonite Church to hear stories from our past and learn skills from our grandmothers, mothers and daughters.  We encourage you to invite someone of a different generation to join you in this celebration.  The cost is $20 per person and registration is required.  Check your church mailbox for a copy of the flyer and registration form.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:   A series of Masters’ level theology courses begins today in Ukraine.  Pray for Mary Raber of MMN as she helps to coordinate this learning experience for the next 10 days.  May she have time to relate to the students while continuing her other teaching and writing responsibilities.

Prayers for faith and learning:  Homecoming weekend at Goshen College is a celebration both of what has been and what is yet to come.  Pray for all who gather to celebrate their time at Goshen College and the meaningful relationships that have endured over many years.

Business Leaders and Pastors: Partners in Leadership and Ministry  As followers of Christ, both business leaders and pastors want to work for God’s purposes in the world.  Yet despite this common desire, business leaders and pastors sometimes encounter barriers to pursuing a shared vision. Join other Christian business leaders and pastors for a conversation at the Parkside Activities Center in Wellman on Saturday, Nov 23, 8:30am-12:30pm, sponsored by the Center for Faith and Business, AMBS, MCUSA, and Mennonite Economic Development Associates.  Early registration deadline is Nov 11.  For more information go to www.centerfaithbusiness.org or contct Anna Geyer, David Boshart or Erin Ramer at info at centerfaithbusiness.org.
