Our Church

This evening at 5 PM we will hold a congregational meeting in the fellowship hall.  Phyllis Litwiller, Edie Nebel & Gay Widmer will give a report from the SE Iowa regional meeting they attended Dec 15th.  Everyone is welcome & encouraged to attend.


Crooked Creek Christian Camp

CCCC has several Februrary and March weekend openings at all facilities.  To schedule your winter getaway for rest and rejuvenation, call the camp now at 319.653.3611.


Iowa Mennonite School

Youth in the community are invited to participate in basketball scrimmages during IMS varsity halftime contests, including the following: Jan 11 (5th-6th grade girls); Jan 15 (3rd-4th grade girls); Jan 22 (3rd-4th grade boys); Jan 25 (7th-8th grade girls).  For more information, please contact Candi Schmieder at IMS: cschmieder at iowamennonite.org or 319.656.2073.

Come support IMS at the annual potato bar on Feb 3rd, serving from 11:30-1:00 at Upper Deer Creek Church.  A free will donation will be accepted for the IMS general fund.


Mennonite Agencies

Doyle Roth will be leading a Fellowship and Work Team traveling to Ecuador from Feb 21st to March 4th.  Volunteers for this group are still needed; those interested should contact Doyle as soon as possible at 402.641.0266 or doyleroth@hotmail.com.  A few women from Colombia will join this group, so women are especially encouraged to go.

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for God’s guidance and wisdom for conference leaders as they meet next Saturday to develop a response to the counsel received during the Fall regional meetings.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Pray for Mennonite Voluntary Service participants Allison Schrag and Katie Penner, and for the Manhattan Mennonite Fellowship as they grieve the death of enthusiastic supporter Linda Hood.  Pray also that Mennonites in New York City can comfort and extend hope to those suffering the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.  MVS is a program of MMN.

Prayers for Faith and Learning:  Pray for students at Bethany Christian Schools during their second and final week of J-term, classes: that they will have safe travels, develop and strengthen their relationships with peers and teachers, and be enriched as they study.


Washington Area

West Union MYF would like to invite you to come to HUHOT Mongolian Grill on Mon, Jan 14th and have supper.  The MYF will be the helping hands there from 5pm to 8pm and 10% of the sales will go towards their expenses for the 2013 Youth Convention.  There will also be a tip jar for donations.  Questions or directions?  Call Lisa Lammer 319.930.7500 or Ramona Miller 319.430.6832.

Washington Middle School Student Council will be having a Tip Night at Pizza Ranch in Washington Wed, Jan 23rd from 5-8pm.  All proceeds from this evening will be donated to Sue Spencer, a beloved Middle School teacher and life-long resident of Washington who is battling serious health issues.  Please come help us support the Spencer family.  If you cannot make it but would like to contribute, checks can be made out to WMS PIE and dropped off at the Middle School office between now and Jan 23rd.  Contact Rachel Meyer at 653.5414 with any questions.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church is presenting a Walk Thru the Bible Seminar in the New Testament on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.   This years’ event will be held at Iowa Mennonite School and will include a Kids in the Book Event (Grades 1-5).  Registration fee for adults is $25 and includes lunch, snacks and materials.  Children grades 1-5 may enroll in the Kids in the Book Event FREE of charge with a paid adult!   Registration deadline is January 18 and may be done by phone (656.2076) or email (ldc at kctc.net).  You won’t want to miss this fun, educational event!
