Last call for abiding verses!  The church secretary has reached the end of the submitted abiding verses for the bulletin.  We’d like to hear from everyone.  So submit yours by email or just stick it in the church office if you have not yet written one.

“Talks that Teach” is a book of Bible stories, public speeches, and other short presentations by Bessie King Yoder, one of the few Mennonite women in southeast Iowa with college experience in the 1920’s.  Bessie was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church near Kalona, Iowa, for 75 years.  A copy of this book has been given to the Washington Mennonite Church library by Dorothy Yoder Nyce, daughter of Bessie King Yoder.

Iowa Mennonite School

IMS is participating in the countrywide US Cellular Calling All Communities contest.  We need to be in the top 18 by the end of the contest on Oct. 21st for a chance to win up to $150,000.  The money will be used for technology updates and student aid.  Please also pass the word on to friends and family to vote too. You don't need to be a US Cellular customer to vote.  See Susan See after the service if you’d like to participate.
IMS students are available for hire!  The Fall Work Day will be Friday, Oct 19, and you may hire one or more students to do yard work, cleaning, or other chores around the house.  All wages earned will be turned into the school for Student Aid, a program administering tuition funds for students/families needing assistance.  Please contact Mary Lou Gingerich in the school office for more information.

Come find out what you need to know about Medicare, what’s covered, the types of supplemental plans offered and deadlines for enrollment. Don’t miss this opportunity to get your questions answered. Reserve a seat for yourself and a friend or family member by Oct. 9 at (877) 656.4242 or cheryl.martinmiller at everence.com.

How do we live faithfully by reusing, recycling, refreshing, recreating? The Annual Mennonite Women’s Fall Meeting is Sunday, October 21st, at 3:00 pm.  We are working with Crowded Closet by using their space and hearing how they take our “stuff” and reuse, recycle and recreate. See projects that have been created from donated items, including the plates we will eat our desserts off of!  We will see how others are rejoicing, responding and possibly re-evaluating how we can live our lives.  Come and join us!!  Bring $10/person to cover the cost of the event.  RSVP by October 10th to carolyncyoder at gmail.com or call 319.656.5191.

The Sower Prayer Request:  Pray for congregations in our conference who are searching for pastoral leadership.

Mennonite Mission Network Prayer Request:  Marietta and Sheldon Sawatzky are completing their MMN assignment in Taiwan at the end of October.  Pray that teachers could be found to continue Marietta’s three English Bible classes, and that God would give the Sawatzkys energy to work out all the details of this transition.

Mennonite Education Agency Prayer Request:  On Clergy Appreciation Day, we bless pastors, the world over, as they interpret Christ’s love to young children.  Pray as they promote peace and respect through enriching healthy family relationships, supporting high quality education and care for all children, and protecting children from exploitation, violence and discrimination.
