Today is Peace Sunday in Mennonite Church USA and Canada. Every Sunday, Washington Mennonite Church lights the Peace Candle as a reminder to all of us to continue to pray for peace the world over. God calls us to live in harmony with one another. Peace and justice are key components for this to happen.

Offering for 9/12/10: $2282.00 (regular), $100.00 (HACAP)

Happy Birthday to: Mike Leyden (today), Elijah Wood (9/22), Phyllis Headrick
(9/23), Doug Brenneman (9/25)

Phyllis and Don want to thank the church for the flowers, food, cards and also for the visits at our home and the hospital.

Washington Mennonite is responsible for Meals on Wheels from September 6 to October 8, 2010. The sign up sheet is complete! Thank you to those of you who gave of your time to deliver meals to the elderly in our community.

Please put your “Spiritual Gifts Test” result sheet in Diane’s box. She will be tallying them to get a picture of the balance of gifts God has given Washington Mennonite members and friends. If you misplaced yours or haven’t taken the “test” yet, pick up a copy in the foyer.

It’s time to return our summer stewardship library to Western District Conference Resource Center. If you borrowed a book from the foyer table, please return it to Diane’s office this week. Central Plains bought a membership so any member of our conference (that means member of WMC) can borrow books from this great Resource Center. Check it out at www.mennowdc.org/Library. Marlene Bogard, the librarian, is a wonderful resource on anything you are studying or preparing or interested in reading more about. Her email is on the website.

MABROK, our annual family bike ride on the KewashTrail, is scheduled for today, September 19th, at 3:00 PM at Sunset Park. We will ride to West Chester and back, and then enjoy fellowship, hot dogs and jalapenos in the park. Please sign up in the foyer so we know how many are coming. We have invited West Union to be our guests. Family Life Committee will be your hosts.

Help meet needs in often forgotten places: Your donation, large or small, to “where needed most” gives MCC the flexibility to respond effectively to the greatest needs in communities where we serve. Your gift will make a real difference in the lives of families across the world. It will also help fulfill our overall mission of encouraging peace, building stronger communities and providing disaster relief in places that we hear about on the evening news and in often forgotten places around the world. Thank you for considering a gift to MCC, for showing care for humanity, in the name of Christ. Please send your check with “where needed most” in the memo line to MCC Central States, PO Box 235, North Newton, KS 67117 or donate online at mcc.org.

Mission Network prayer request: Hosts in Bolivia, China and England are preparing to welcome Radical Journey participants as they complete their orientation time in Chicago. Pray that mutual learning and serving between hosts and participants will further build God’s kingdom.
